SANDY-Salt Lake County.
SANDY is situated twelve miles south of Salt Lake City, on the line of the Union Pacific and Rio Grand Railways, at their junction with the Alta and Bingham branches. Although a small town, it is one of considerable import- ance. A large portion of the ores from the Cottonwoods and Bingham Can- yon are shipped there for sampling. After being tested, much of the ore re- mains in Sandy until sold, and the business of handling, transferring and shipping ores is the principal enterprise of the inhabitants. A number of smelters are located in the vicinity, and in times of mining activity are in gen- eral operation, giving employment to a large number of men. Daily mail from the north and south. Population 1,100.
