The "Old First" Virginia Infantry.


The " Old First " Virginia Infantry As- sociation was organized the 10th of April, 1874. Its objects are to re- vive the friendships and memories of army life, to visit and relieve mem- bers in distress, and to compile a history of the regiment. The Asso- ciation has a permanent hall under the Exchange Hotel, which is always open to any members either of the old regiment or the present Associa- tion. The Secretary of the Associa- tion will be glad to receive any in- formation as to facts in connection with the old regiment ; also, any relics or mementoes associated there- with, and, in particular, likenesses of deceased members.

St. Joseph's Female sylum.


Orphan As-


Corner Marshall and 4th-In charge of Sisters of Charity. Founded in No- vember, 1834, and dedicated under the patronage of St. Joseph. Incor- porated in October, 1868. This in- stitution is divided into three depart- ments-the asylum proper, for fe- male orphans ; the academy; and the parochial school for girls. The institution is most excellently con- ducted under management of Sister Mariana, superior.


St. Sophia's Home for Old People. Marshall corner 9th.


This institution. presided over by Sister Victoria, Mother of the Order of the Little Sisters of the Poor in this city, assisted by five Sisters, is intended as a home for poor, destitute, aged persons, irrespective of sex or relig- ious creeds. It was incorporated Ap'l 17, 1874, having been established by the generous charity of the late W. Shakspeare Caldwell. The institu- tion is supported entirely by dona- tions of the public.
