The "Old First" Virginia Infantry.


The " Old First" Virginia Infantry Associa- tion was organized the 10th of April, 1874. Its objects are to revive the friendships and memories of army life, to visit and relieve members in distress, and to compile a history of the regiment. The Secretary of the Association will be glad to receive any information as to facts in connection with the old regiment; also, any relics or mementoes associated there- with, and in particular, likenesses of de- ceased members.

In charge of the Sisters of Charity. Founded in November, 1834, and dedicated under the patronage of St. Joseph. Incorporated in October, 1868. This institution is divided into three departments : the asylum proper, for female orphans; the academy, and the parochial school for girls. This institution is most excellently conducted under man- agement of Sister Mariana, superior.

This institution, presided over by Sister Vic- toria, Mother of the Order of the Little Sisters of the Poor in this city, assisted by five Sisters, is intended as a home for poor, destitute, aged persons, irrespective of sex or religious creeds. It was incorporated April 17, 1874, having been established by the generous charity of the late W. Shaks- peare Caldwell. The institution is sup- ported entirely by donations of the public.
