HEALTH OFFICER'S REPORT.

Post Mills, Vt., Feb. 1, 1913.

During the last year the general health of the town has been good. Mild epidemics of German Measles, Chicken Pox, Whooping Cough and Measles have occurred, but owing to precautions taken by those having the disease they have not spread beyond the family where they orriginated. All cases have been contracted from out of town parties so far as known. The citizens of the town are to be commended in this direction. There has been no Typhoid Fever during the year.

Much of the sickness could be prevented by a proper attention to the water supply and sewerage. Nearly all wells situated near or below buildings showing the pre- sence of sewerage.

30

A war on flies by means of the fly trap and elimi- nation of breeding places during the early spring and summer would largely do away with this pest and prevent much trouble. The vaults to all earth closets should be screened as they are a source of great danger. Better ventilation in our houses and public buildings should be had. The common drinking cups should never be used.

The Rod Shop and G. A. R. Hall at Post Mills have been provided with proper means of escape in case of fire by building additional stairways during the past year.

The citizens of the town should remember that the sole object of the Local Board of Health and the State Board of Health is to assist you in every possible way to protect yourselves and your families and call on them whenever in doubt as to any question of sanitation or water supply that concerns public health or the health of your families,

Respectfully submitted,

L. B. ALLEN, Health Officer.

Report of the Thetford Public Library

We have received from the State this year twenty- five dollars worth of books. Of the thirty-five dollars appropriated by the town to the uses of the library, ten are paid for rent of the Latham Memorial Library, ten are paid toward the salary of the librarian, leaving fifteen dollars for the purchase of new books.

The Grange has paid one-half the cost of Bailey's En- cyclopedia of Agriculture, the library paying the other half. In these volumes our citizens will find all farm sub- jects discussed by the best authorities. It is a very val- uable addition to the library.

The early printed town reports are needed to the library. Who will present them so that the file may be complete?

The library is open on Tuesday afternoon from three to five, and on Friday evening from six to eight.

Respectfully submitted, WILLIAM SLADE, President of the Trustees.
