Mr. Williams passed away in a Bakersfield hospital on Wednesday morning, July 7. He was born in Topeka, Kan- sas on February 7, 1918 and spent his early years there, he worked as a teamster for many years and following his retire- ment he moved to the lake area in 1973. He was a member of the Kern Valley Bible Church, the Kern River Valley Elks Lodge #2358, Loyal Order of Moose #498, the Mountain Airs C.B. Club, the Kern River Val- ley Senior Citizens and the American Association of Re- tired Persons. He was a vol- unteer for the senior center and delivered commodities for the food program. He was affectionately known to local CBers as the Dingbat of Whis- key Flats.


Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his wife Angela in March of this year. He is sur- vived by two sons Charles of


Little Rock, California and Ro- nald of Hesperia, Califomia; one daughter Yvonne Burch of Redondo Beach; grandchildren Larry Williams and Sherry Lowe of Mira Loma, Scott Burch of Redondo Beach, Bobby Wil- liams of Little Rock, Bob Lechrome of San Diego, Cynthia Williams of Eugene, Oregon. He is also survived by one great-grandson Corey Lowe of Mira Loma, many nieces and nephews and friends.


Private inurnment was held. Services are entrusted to the care of the Bonnewell Family, Lake Isabella Funeral Home.

Charles "Chuck" Edward Parker


A memorial service, attended by his family and friends, was held in Bodfish on Saturday, July 10, 1993 for Chuck Parker. Chuck was bom in Lowndes County, Miss. on September 11, 1938 and died after a seri- ous illness in Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield. He was 54 years old.


He is survived by his wife Christine Parker and Mabel of Lake Isabella; his aunt Maggie and Uncle Fred Parker, who loved him and raised him in Eupora, Miss.


Chuck was a resident of Lake Isabella for the last eight years and he will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Virginia Ledbetter


A funeral service was held Tuesday, July 6, 1993 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Lake Isabella for Virginia Ledbetter of Lake Isabella. Of- ficiating was Pastor David Snow of the First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella. Serving as pall bearers were Bill Early, Doug Godfrey, Dean Mcclellan, Pat Muxlow, Jim Ash and Leonard Dickerson. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah, Oklahoma.


Mrs. Ledbetterwas born May 5, 1947 in Tehachapi, Califomia and died July 2, 1993 in Mt. Mesa, California. She was 46 yeas old. She and her husband Ed operated Snacks 'N' Gas in Lake Isabella. Mrs. Ledbetter was a life-long Kern County resident.


She is survived by her hus- band of 13 years Ed Ledbetter of Lake Isabella; daughter Kathleen Ledbetter of Lake Isabella; daughter Donna Bussard of Canyon Country, California; daughter Melinda Every of Oklahoma; mother Rose Barnache of Lake Isabella; brother Jim Barnache of Weldon; brother Gene Barnache of Oklahoma; four grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.

Cecil Sylvester Hilsabeck


Cecil Sylvester Hilsabeck, a former Riverside resident, died Saturday, July 3 in Bend, Or- egon. Mr. Hilsabeck was in Bend to attend the wedding of his great-granddaughter. He was 82.


Graveside services will be held Wednesday, July 7 at 2:00 p.m. at Montaceto Memorial Park.


Mr. Hilsabeck was born De- cember 15, 1910 in Dickens, lowa to Perry Wilford and Mary (Lhamon) Hilsabeck. On April 30, 1931 he married Beulah Catherine Pitcher in Spencer, lowa. She died March 12, 1982. For many years he worked as a vending machine mechanic.


Mr. Hilsabeck enjoyed fish- ing, travel and bowling. He was a member of the Christian Church in Riverside, California.


He is survived by two sons, Harold Hilsabeck of Lake Isa- bella, and Don Hilsabeck of Klamath Falls, Oregon; two daughters, Lucille Barnes of Diamond, Oregon, and Joan Rodgers of Riverside, Califor- nia. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 32 great- grandchildren.

John Paul DeMatteo


Memorial services will be held at a later date for John Paul DeMatteo, 76, who passed away July 3 in a Bakersfield hospital. Mr. DeMatteo was a longtime resident of Lake Isa- bella and former longtime resi- dent of Nevada County, Califor- nia.


He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Dick West; son Dr. Asa DeMatteo; daughter Delores Lee; and sons Mark and Duane; sister Sara Andrizzi; brother Paul DeMatteo; grandchildren, great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. William Lowell Sheets


Private family services were held on Sunday, July 9, for Mr. William Sheets. He passed away at his residence in Lake Isabella. Mr. Sheets was born in Jasonville, Indiana, on May 15, 1910 and spent his early years there. Following his re- tirement as a custodian for the Walnut School District in Dia- mond Bar, California, he and his wife moved to Lake Isabella in 1960. He and his wife Elsie were married in Terra Haute, Indiana, on September2, 1933.


Mr. Sheets is survived by his wife Elsie at the family home in Lake Isabella, one son Tom of Lake Isabella, one daughter and her husband, Evelyn and Ed- ward LaVigne of Irvine; four grandchildren Michael La Vigne of Newport Beach, Robert LaVigne of Escondido, Susan Wiste of Rancho Santa Margarita, and Thomas Sheets of La Puente. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and many friends.


Mr. Sheets was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, the American Association of Retired Persons and Southbay Lodge #421 Free and Accepted Masons of El Segundo. Services were en- trusted to the care of The Bonnewell Family, Lake Isabella Funeral Home.

A visitation was held Thurs- day, July 15, 1993 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Valley Mortuary in Lake Isabella fol- lowed by a graveside service Friday, July 16, 1993 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights for Dorsey Ed Durbin of Kern- ville. Officiating were the Offic- ers of the Kern River Valley V.F.W. Post 7665 and Michael Durbin.


Mr. Durbin was born Sep- tember 14, 1918 in Bennington, Oklahoma and died July 12, 1993 in Bakersfield, California. He was 74 years old and a 15 year resident of the Kern River Valley.


He is survived by his brother Alan Durbin of Oregon; his nieces Ann Tuttle and Ruth Jones of Wofford Heights, Jeanie Jones of Oakview, California; nephew Bob Parker of Tulare; brother-in-law Dell Parker of Oakview and many other friends and family.

Joyce E. Crosby


Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 20, at 11:00 a.m. at the Kern Valley Bible Church, 3920 Golden Spur Road in Lake Isabella for Bod- fish resident Mrs. Joyce E. Crosby. Officiating at the ser- vices were the Lake Isabella Chapter #1297 Women of the Moose.


Commital services and in- terment followed at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wof- ford Heights. Mrs. Crosby passed away Thursday morn- ing in a Bakersfield hospital. She was born in Vernon, Texas, on November 13, 1926 and spent her early years there. She and her husband came to Cali- fornia and resided in the Sepulveda area for many years. She came to the Lake Isabella area following retirement in 1978. She was a member of the Lake Isabella Chapter #1297 Women of the Moose.


Mrs. Crosby was preceded in death by her daughter Joy Elaine Smith in 1990. She is survived by her husband George Crosby of the family home in Bodfish; one son Will Crosby of Vista; one brother Herbert Dobson of Carrolton, Texas; one sister Ruth Haynes of Vernon, Texas; four grand- children Amy and Casey Terry of Paso Robles, and Katie and Wes Crosby of Vista. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.


Services were entrusted to the care of The Bonnewell Family. Lake Isabella Funeral Home.


Mathew Layne Burleson


Memorial services were held on Tuesday, July 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Kemville First Bap- tist Church for Weldon resident Mathew Burleson, age 31. Pas- tor Robbie Robinson of the Weldon Baptist Church offici- ated. Mathew died as the result of a motorcycle accident on Thursday evening, July 15. He was born in Harbor City, Cali- fornia, on September 30, 1961 and attended schools in Orange and Riverside counties. He moved to Weldon in 1990 and was employed by Varsity Con- tractors. Mathew was an outdoorsman and enjoyed his boat and loved to fish and hunt.


Mathew is survived by his wife of one month Janice of Weldon; his parents Jim and Winifred Burleson of Weldon; stepchildren Scott and Carisa Mullins and Richard and Cynthia Silcott, all of Weldon; one brother Mark Burleson of San Bernardino; one sister and her husband Nancy and Dean Mar- tin of Riverside; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. Private inurnment was held. Services are entrusted to the care of the Bonnewell Family, Lake Isabella Funeral Home.


Darlene Marie Bagwell


A visitation was held Tues- day, July 13, 1993, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Valley Mor- tuary in Lake Isabella followed by a graveside service Wednesday, July 14, 1993 at 10:00 a.m. at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights for Darlene Marie Bagwell of Weldon. Officiating was Pastor Richard Lewis of the Kernville Southern Baptist Church.


Darlene was born May 3, 1949 in Lady Smith, Wisconsin and died July 6, 1993 in Weldon, California. She was 44 years old and a 7 year resident of the Kern County.


She is survived by her hus- band of 5 years Robert Bagwell of Weldon; her daughter Becky McAllester and son Robert Peace; stepdaughter Lorette Casteel of Simi Valley, Califor- nia; stepdaughter Sheila Bagwell of Corona, California; stepson Melvin Bagwell of Taft; brother Steve Valenta of Washington; sister Vickie Blackman of Oregon; sister Shelly Wipperman of Corona; her parents George and Oni Valenta of Fullerton, California.

Normand Lucien Charbonneau


A visitation was held Friday, July 23, 1993 at Valley Mortu- ary with a funeral service fol- lowing Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at the Foursquare Gospel Church in Wofford Heights for Normand Lucien Charbonneau of Bodfish. Serving as pall- bearers were Pete Charbonneau, Jack Tripp, Steve Lindsay, Brian Polston, Bill Best and John Taylor. Offi- ciating was Pastor Jerry Ruff. Interment followed at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wof- ford Heights.


Mr. Charbonneau was born July 22, 1948 in Montreal, Canada and died at his resi- dence in Bodfish. He was 44 years old. He operated his own machine shop here in Lake Isa- bella for the past 11 years supplying parts for NASA.


He served as an Elder in the Foursquare Gospel Church in Wofford Heights and was very dedicated in serving his Lord.


His relationship with his Lord is expressed by his favorite scripture. "I eagerly expect and hope that I will no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. Fore me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.' Philippians 1:20, 21.


He is survived by his wife of 23 years Tressa of Bodfish; his son and daughter-in-law Michael and Nina Charbonneau of Bakersfield; daughter Michele Brand of Los Alamitos, Califor- nia; mother and father Adrien and Louise Charbonneau of Canada; brothers Pete Charbonneau of Idaho, Andy Charbonneau of Oregon, Paul Charbonneau of Nevada, Marcell Charbonneau of Canada and Claude Charbonneau of Canada; sis- ters Claire and Denise Charbonneau of Canada; grandchildren Cory Charbonneau of Bakersfield and Matthew Brand of Los Alamitos, California.

Daphne D. Meador


Daphne D. Meador of Poway, CA passed away July 17, 1993. She is survived by her son Ri- chard Lund of Covina; son Lee Meador of Mayo, MD; grandson Jeffrey Meador of Kansas City, MO.


Daphne Meador was a long- time resident of Lake Isabella. She moved to the lake in 1959 and then relocated to Poway, CA in 1990. While in Lake Isa- bella she was active in the Elks and Moose Lodge. Born March 9, 1900 in Blaine, WA. Daphne was 93.

William G. McIntire


Bill McIntire, age 79. died Sunday, July 25, 1993. He was the third of 11 children born to William M. and Zelma Harmon McIntire in Price, Utah. Bill married Ruth Waddoups En- gland on June 23, 1948. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on February 8, 1950.


Bill is survived by one son, James W. and his wife Lynn of Spokane, WA; daughter Jo and her husband Kelly Scoffield of Kingwood, TX; daughter Jenna and her husband Rick Cobb of Phoenix, AZ. one daughter Julie preceded him in death. Bill has nine deary loved grandchildren: Julie, Josh. Rebecca, Ashley, Teigan, Tia, Alaina, Mac and Joe. His surviving siblings are: DeNiece Starich, Jean Par- tridge, Margie Matich, and Brig Mclntire of Salt Lake City, UT; Bonnie Isaac and LaVaun Pleasants of St. George, UT; James McIntire of Henderson, NV. He is also survived by hundreds of other people who love him.


Bill spent most of his adult life in pursuit of knowledge. He re- ceived degrees from Brigham Young University, University of Southern California, and Loui- siana State University, where he worked for over 30 years doing research and teaching in the areas of archeology, ge- ology and oceanography.


A memorial service was held July 27, 1993 at the Sunset LDS Chapel in St. George, Utah. He will be buried in the Price City Cemetery. A scholarship fund has been established in his name at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Also, a memorial fund has been established in his name at the Kern River Valley Historical Society, Kern- ville, California.

Martha Malika Gray


A graveside service was held Wednesday, July 20, 1993 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights for Martha Malika Gray of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Elder Ralph Fugitt of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Mt. Mesa. Mrs. Gray was born March 24, 1907 in Hawaii and died at her residence in Lake Isabella on July 15. 1993. She was 86 years old.


Martha was a 20 year resident of the Kern River Valley, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Mt. Mesa, and a member of National Rifleman's Associa- tion. She was preceded in death by her son Frederic Necholas Gray who died June 9, 1993.


Martha is survived by her son Eddie Gray of Bullhead City, Arizona, seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchil- dren.

Edgar Clyde DeJarlais


Edgar Clyde DeJarlais, for- merly of Hooper Rd., Weldon, California, passed away on June 27, 1993 in Muskegon, Michigan where he had resided with his niece.


He was born December 30, 1915 in Flint, Michigan, served in U.S. Navy from 1934-1940. He married Opal Arnold on October 20, 1940. She pre- ceded him in death on October 26, 1990.


He is survived by nieces and nephews, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws.


His remains will be buried on August 6, 1993 at 10 a.m. at Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights, California; with Pastor Deryl Lackey officiating.

Jack W. Hobson


A memorial service was held Thursday, August 5, 1993 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kern River Valley Elks Lodge #2358 in Wofford Heights for Jack Wesley Hobson of Wofford Heights. Officiating were the Officers of the Elks Lodge #2358. Jack was born July 2, 1909 in Belcherville, Texas and died July 30, 1993 in Mt. Mesa, California. He was 84 years old. Jack was employed as a pile driver and bridge builder. In fact, he worked on most of the bridges on Highway 178 in Eastern Kern County. Jack was a member of the Elks Lodge #2358, and a 3 year resident of the Kern River Valley.


He is survived by his wife of 37 years Pauline Hobson of Wofford Heights; son Don Marston of Lancaster, Califor- nia; daughter Katherine Harper of Kansas; daughter Maryellen Haggerman of Lamar, Colo- rado; daughter Jackie Shepherd of Oregon; daughter May Carson of Texas; daughter Reaella Bartner of Colorado; daughter Henrietta Smith of Colorado; brother Sam Hobson of Florida; brother Bufford Hobson of Florida brother Eu- gene Hobson of Oklahoma; sister Lettie Bond of Florida; and 14 grandchildren.

Ruthe Elizabeth Dunham, age 73, passed away due to illness on August 3, 1993 at her place of residence in Grove, Oklahoma.


Mrs. Dunham was born July 29, 1920 in Bartlesville, Okla- homa. She married Robert Dunham, July 30, 1939 at McAlester, Oklahoma. They moved to Grove, Oklahoma in October 1992, from Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Mrs. Dunham was a member of Eastern Star of Grove and a Daughter of the Nile.


She is survived by her hus- band Robert Dunham of Grove, Oklahoma; daughter Shirley Duncan of Atlanta, Georgia; son Larry Dunham of Palm Coast, Florida; brother Oscar Cook of Lompoc, California; five grand- children and two great-grand- children.

A memorial service was held Saturday, August 14, 1993 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kern River Valley Eagles Aerie #3156 for Carlton Flavil Melton of Onyx. Officiating were the Officers of the Eagles and Officers of the Kern River Valley V.F.W. Post #7665.


Carlton was a member of the Kern River Valley V.F.W. Post #7665, and the Kern River Valley Eagles Aerie #3156.


Mr. Melton was born January 29, 1910 in Hohenwald, Ten- nessee and died August 10, 1993 at his residence in Onyx. He was 83 years old. He is survived by his wife Patricia Melton of Onyx of whom he married in Australia 48 years ago; daughter Sandra Melton Febles of Torrance, California; daughter Violet Danyo of Michigan; son Tom Melton of Maylasa; and numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

Fern Lulu Cambis


Fern Lulu Cambis died of heart failure Saturday, July 24, 1993 in her Fremont, California, home. She was 89.


Born April 3, 1904, in Minden, Nebraska, she lived in Fremont for the past six years. She was a homemaker who worked on the ferry from Berkeley to San Francisco many years ago.


Her husband, Jim Cambis died in 1990. She is survived by daughter Barbara Harrell of Fremont; daughter Teena Reams of Buena Park; son Burt Cambis of Bodfish; son Vincent Cambis of Carlsbad; 24 grand- children, including Sandra Saddler of Lake Isabella and Terri Sullivan, formerly of Havilah; 26 great-grandchil- dren, including Annette and Craig Saddler of Lake Isabella, and Michele, Jesse and Damon Sullivan, formerly of Havilah; and six great-great-grandchil- dren.

Gordon Stanley Flanagan


A visitation was held Tues- day and Wednesday, August 24 and 25 at Valley Mortuary and with a service following Thursday, August 26, 1993 at 11:00 a.m. at the Valley Mor- tuary Chapel in Lake Isabella for Gordon Stanley Flanagan of Bodfish. Officiating will be Pastor Floyd Castillo of the Highland Chapel United Meth- odist Church of Lake Isabella.


Gordon was born Decem- ber 28, 1931 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and died Au- gust 20, 1993 in Bakersfield, California. He was 61 years old. Gordon entered the Ca- nadian Navy in 1949 in England and served until 1949 leaving as Seaman First Class/Aircraft Mechanic. Gordon was a member of the Kern River Valley Eagles Aerie #3156 and a Mason.

A memorial service was held Monday, August 23 1993, at 11:00 a.m. at the Valley Mortu- ary Chapel in Lake Isabella for Rena Abraham of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Pastor Marvin Moon of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Lake Isa- bella.


Rena was born in Alberta, Canada, on August 28, 1911 and died in Mt. Mesa on August 19, 1993. She was 81 years old. She was a member of the Moose Lodge for many years.


Mrs. Abraham is survived by her husband of 43 years, Rob- ert Abraham of Lake Isabella, and two nieces Pat Peligine of Nevada and Carol Cacossette of Whittier.

Edward C. Rich


Edward C. Rich of Bodfish passed away on August 13, 1993 at the VA Hospital in Fresno, California. He was born in Bayard, Nebraska on July 12, 1926.


He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Bodfish; son Franklin Rich of Fresno, California; daughter Lynda Rich of Modesto, California; son Roger Rich of Aubrey, Texas; and their families.


Mr. Rich is also survived by a brother Donald Rich of Grants Pass, Oregon; sister Irene Nutt of Paso Robles, California; sister Nita DeGraw of Fresno, Cali- fornia; sister lona Hoeye of Woodburn, Oregon; their fami- lies and six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and 21 nieces and nephews.


Ed was a 13 year resident of the Kern River Valley. He was a life member of VFW Post #7665, DAV Chapter #54 and the CPVA of Long Beach, California.


Arrangements were made by the Wild Rose Chapel of Fresno for Interment in San Joaquin National Cemetery in Gustine, California. He will be missed by his family and many friends in the Kern River Valley.

Memorial services will be held for Mary Jane Fiedorowicz on Friday, September 3, 1993 at 10:30 a.m. at Highland Chapel in Lake Isabella. Officiating will be Pastor Floyd Castillo.


Mary was born in St. Joseph, Michigan on October 12, 1918. She worked for many years as a registered nurse, and as a social worker for the County of Orange and the American Red Cross. She was a 12 year resi- dent of the valley which she loved.


Mary will be sorely missed by her husband and family. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Leonard Fiedorowicz of Lake Isabella; son David Fiedorowicz of Arroyo Grande; daughter Lynn Ann Valles of Lake Elsinore; five grandchil- dren and four great-grandchil- dren; mother Estelle Wilkinson and brother William Hoffman, both of Michigan.


The family wishes to thank the many friends who have lent their loving support through visits, calls, prayers and cards. Your thoughtfulness is appre- ciated.

Lee J.R. Taylor


A funeral service was held Thursday, September 2, 1993, at Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights for Lee J.R. Taylor. Officiating were the of- ficer of the VFW Post #7665.


Lee was born December 22, 1920 in McCalestor, Oklahoma, and passed away August 30, 1993 in No. Hollywood, Cali- fomia. He was 72 years old. Lee served in the Armed Forces for 22 years. He was a resident of Lake Isabella for 30 years.


He is survived by his aunt Vesta Cicotte (aunt Bill) of Lake Isabella; his brother James W. Taylor of Glendale; cousin Rita Milburn of Mojave and many more aunts and uncles and cousins.

Private services were held for Theresa Joan McArthur of Lake Isabella. Theresa was born November 21, 1936, in Boston, Massachusetts, and passed away August 4, 1993 in Lake Isabella. She was 56 years old. She was a resident of Lake Isabella for 6 years.


She is survived by her sister Catherine Pappalardo of Medford, Massachusetts.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, August 31, 1993, at Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights for Lavona Pearl Cox of Weldon. Officiat- ing was Pastor Francis Edge of the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church and Lavona's grandson Elder David Sweany of The Church of Jesus Christ of Lat- ter Day Saints. Lavona was born November 6, 1915 in Payson, Oklahoma, and passed away August 28, 1993, in Mt. Mesa. She was 77 years old.
