MEMORIAL
In Loving Memory of Doyle and Lois Higginson
Wofford Heights residents since August 1971, Doyle and Lois loved their home and com- munity and were active in many organizations during their 19 years in the Kern Valley area.
Both artists at heart, they were very active in the Kern River Valley Art Association. Doyle retired as President in 1978. A master sign maker and commercial artist, his signs and logos are still in use throughout the community. They were also very active in the Kern Valley Historical Society, and the Chamber of Commerce.
Doyle was born April 3, 1904, and named Conan Doyle after his mother's favorite author. His mother, Lenoir Keen, was from
a prominent Irish/English fam- ily, and his great-grandfather, Israh Baker Keen, was a Senator under Abraham Lin- coln. His father, Alva Blain Higginson, was from a family of Dutch farmers, and supported his family as a barber. The family moved to Colorado when he was four, coming to Califor- nia at the age of 18 to attend Chounard Art School in Los Angeles (presently called Cali- fornia Institute of the Arts in Valencia). He later entered the aerospace industry and retired from Hughes Aircraft Company as master machinist in their experimental lab. Doyle had two joyful years entertaining chil- dren as DODO the Clown be- fore coming to the Kern Valley.
Lois May was born Decem- ber 27, 1918, a twin -- 45 min- utes after her sister, Claudia, in San Fernando, California, to the historical Rinaldi family. Her family roots go back to her great-
great-grandfather, Juan Fran- cisco Reyes, the General who escorted Father Serra through California while establishing the missions, and who later estab- lished the San Fernando Mis- sion and became the first Mayor of Los Angeles.
After marrying Doyle, Lois became the perfect home- maker and raised their children. She was active in Girl Scouts of America and PTA during those years. After moving to the Kern Valley, she became active in the South Fork Woman's Club; she also served many years as an officer of the Isabella TOPS Chapter and was awarded "Woman of the Year" for her inspiration and service in 1985.
It was Lois' father, Charles Rinaldi, and step-mother, Lynn, who first settled in Kernville in 1956. Followed by her sister, Katherine Reese (who has since moved to Louisiana). Next came Lois' sister, Rose Neff, who still resides in Wofford Heights with her husband Jim.
Duetoillness, the Higginsons left their beloved Wofford Heights home in 1989. Doyle passed away on July 28, 1991. A memorial was held by his children in Agoura, California. On September 13, Lois passed away in the loving presence of her twin sister, Claudia, and her children. She had suffered a lengthy illness of Lyme's Disease. As a result of a tragic auto- mobile accident, Kern Valley has lost Cody Jeffrey Walker, a loving, happy school chum and friend. Cody is survived by his mother Tonie; grandparents, Robert and Diane Wolney, Don and Diana King; great-grand- parents Frank and Thelma Wilson, Virgil King and Wanda Wolney; aunts and uncles Joe Walker, Jim and Tina Finn, Scott and Andrea Forbes, Greg and Kristy King, Derin and Cassie King, Erik King, Robert Wolney, Jr., Scott and Debra Pearson, William Wolney, Leslie Wolney, and Tracy and Linda Tincher; as well as cousins, Renee Walker, Autumn and Kevin Forbes, Derik, Daniel and Charles King, Monica and Robert Tincher.
Cody will be remembered as the best son, who loved his mom and dad so much that he wrote "I love you" on notes and drawings all the time. Like his father, he was an athlete and loved the outdoors. He loved hunting with his dad and had recently been thrilled to learn to play golf with his mom and dad. He excelled as a baseball player with the local Little League, and was an outstanding soccer player as well. His teammates found him to always be happy, with a warm smile and was a good sport. Like his father, he had great enthusiasm for any- thing he undertook in life. He was a third grader at Woodrow Wallace Elementary School. His classmates laced carna- tions in the school fence earlier this week to honor Cody and to express their grief at their great loss.
A beautiful spirit, a ray of sunshine that touched so many
lives has been dimmed in our valley, but he will not be for- gotten by those whose lives he touched.
