Reservoir No. 4, located in towns of New Britain and Farmington. It is 8 miles from the city by the south road. The reservoir overflows 160 of the 188 acres. The land cost $9,764.90; construction. $84,124.86. Its capacity of 20 feet in depth is 601,358,592 gallons.


Reservoir No. 5, on Mine Brook, about half a mile from No. 1, with a capacity 20 feet in depth of 94,182,- 000 gallons; constructed in 1884, at an expense of $18,549 and paid from receipts of water rents.


Reservoir No. 6 is located about 2 miles north of the first water shed, and covers about 109 acres, with a capacity 27 feet in depth of 765,115,175 gallons; it was completed Oct. 1, 1895, and cost $594,731.06.


Making a total supply of over 2,000,000,000 gallons in the six reservoirs.


Mountain Stream Canal has been thoroughly exca- vated, bringing a supply of water from three rivulets into Reservoir No. 2, constructed in 1883.


Brandy Brook Canal, 12 miles long, 16 feet deep, 12 feet wide at bottom, connecting Brandy Brook with Reservoir No. 4, constructed in 1883.


Total amount of cast iron pipe now in use is 112 miles and 260 feet.


There are 8,672 service pipes now in use.


769 Public hydrants and 497 water meters are in use


The total construction outlay since this water system. has been introduced, has been $2,784,869.82; bonded debt is $970,000.00.


From the commencement of these works in 1856 to March, 1898, the amount received for water rents has been $3,565,558.80. Paid for repairs and current ex- penses, $1,175,125.58; paid interest, $1,845,875.02.

All Hartford Companies of 1st Regiment C. N. G., meet at their Armory, 61 Elm st., which was dedicated with appropriate military ceremonies, March 16, 1880. The organization of the Ist Regiment dates .June, 1672

SAVINGS BANKS IN CONNECTICUT.


As reported Oct. 1, 1897, by the Bank Commission- ers to the Legislature of Connecticut, there were & Savings Banks, holding $155,969,797.95 of deposits, and with total assets of $166,175,213.67, being an increase over last year in deposits of $8,284,258.09. Whole number of depositors are 866,661, a net increase of 10,216 over 1896. Loans on real estate, $62,606.801.07. Loans on stock, bonds, and personal security, $11,055,- 082.87.

FIRST CHURCH OF CHRIST; (CENTER CONGREGATIONAL.) 675 MAIN ST.


The first organization was at Cambridge, Mass., in 1632; removed to Hartford with Rev. Thomas Hooker as Pastor and Rev. Samuel Stone as Teacher, in June, 1636.


The present edifice was erected in 1807; it is 114 feet in length by 79 in width. There are 150 slips on the lower floor, and 56 in the gallery, which will seat about 1200 persons. Spire is 185 feet in height. The conference room was occupied in 1832. In 1822 this church had the first organ in this city. Services 10.45 A. M.

SECOND CHURCH OF CHRIST; (SOUTH CONGREGATIONAL,) 307 MAIN ST. Organized Feb. 22, 1670. This third edifice was dedicated April 11, 1827.


The building is 96 feet in length by 63 feet in breadth, with a portico in front 42 by 12 feet, and a chapel in the rear 86 by 80 feet. The porch is 60 by 16 feet. The audience room is 60 by 77 feet, with galleries. Estimated to seat 1,100 persons.
