The Wardens, Vestry and other members present agreed to receive the Revd. James Wiltbank as pastor to the said Church and pay him One Hundred and fifty Dollars for the ensuing year for officiating and preaching in said Church every other Sunday.


Mr. Daniel Wolfe was appointed Collector of the pew tax for which service he is to be allowed 5% on the sum col- lected.


John McCracken was appointed sexton and to ring the bell for which he is to be allowed 12 dollars per annum.


A subscription paper was drawn authorizing Messrs. George Parker and James Elliott to receive voluntary Contributions to be applied towards the payment of the Parson's salary.


All the accounts relative to fencing the Church Lott and the Potatoes received for rent were settled and paid off at this meeting, and C. Paynter paid 13/11/2 for wood.

Simon Marriner agreed to Rent the House for the ensuing year, rent to commence March 10th, 1805, at the same rate he had it last year, vizt. £25. 10s. exclusive of the Lott. At settlement there appears to be £13 15s. Od. due from the said Simon Marriner for arrears of rent the last year.


The Trustees having paid all the small bills and accounts against the Church out of the money received for the rent last year, the balance in their hands was £21 0s. 0d. which, with £5 11s. Od. pd. Aug 17th, when it can be collected, will make £26 11s. Od. was appropriated to the payment of the interest on the mortgage due to the following persons:

Samuel Paynter, Senr., George Parker and Daniel Rod- ney were appointed a Committee to Sell the old brick and put up a Cedar fence on the northwest Side of the Church Yard, and to rent the pews for the ensuing year.


At a meeting of the Trustees, Wardens, &ca., August 17th, 1805, Simon Marriner paid £5 11s. towards last year's rent; Do paid $8.50 being the amount of one-third of 1914 bushels of wheat raised on the Church Lott.


At same time Daniel Rodney was paid the sum of $8.50 towards repaying him an amount which he had paid to John Jeffreys for Carpenter's work on the Court House.

Easter Monday, April 7th, 1806. This day a meeting was held at the house of Simon Marriner; present George Parker, Daniel Rodney, William Wolfe, James Elliott, Daniel Wolfe, and Sylvester Webb, when it was agreed on account of the small number present to adjourn the meet- ing till this day three weeks.


On the twenty-eighth day of April, 1806, agreeably to adjournment, several of the Trustees, Vestry, and members of the Congregation met and appointed Samuel Paynter, Junr, and Sylvester Webb lay delegates to represent this Church in the State Convention to be held at Milford the first Tuesday in May.


Also the Wardens, Vestrymen and bell ringer appointed last year were continued for the ensuing year.


At a meeting held the twenty-sixth day of July, it was agreed to recommend raising the pew tax for the last year so as to make up fifty dollars more than the tax amounted to before, which was $100; the aforesaid fifty dollars to be paid to the Rev. James Wilthank in addition to the sum collected for the pews at the old rate.


It was also resolved to receive the Revd. James Wiltbank as pastor of this Church for this year, 1806, and to pay him the same salary and in the same manner as he was paid before Easter, 1805, vizt: out of the pew tax that could be collected and voluntary subscriptions.


1807. At a meeting of the Wardens, Vestry, Trustees. and other members of St. Peter's Church, at Lewes, this thirtieth day of March, being Easter Monday, the Wardens, vizt. Samuel Paynter, Senr. and Cornelius Wiltbank, ap- pointed last year, were continued for the ensuing year.


The Trustees are Daniel Rodney, Samuel Paynter, Senr., Cornelius Wiltbank, George Parker, John Wolfe, Cornelius Paynter, and William Burton.


The Vestry for the last year were John Wolfe, Jacob Haz- zard, Thomas Warrington, Danicl Wolfe, Samuel Paynter, Junr., David Johnson, John Parker, Richard Howard, James Elliott, Sylvester Webb, and John Maull, Senr .; who were continued for the ensuing year and Charles M. Cullen was also appointed a Vestryman for the ensuing year.

Also Samuel Paynter, Senr., and Daniel Rodney .were appointed lay delegates to represent this Church in the State Convention to be held the first Saturday in June, and Daniel Rodney was directed to pay four dollars as the Con- tribution of this Church to the General Convention.


It was agreed by a majority of the members present that the Trustees should sell that part of the Church lott which lays between the public ditch and Fourth street and that the same should be advertised to be sold on Saturday week next.


Also Daniel Rodney was authorized to pay John McCrack- en for his services in ringing the bell, &ca., $12 for the last year; and the above mentioned lott was sold, at the time appointed, unto Caleb Rodney who gave a note for one-half the purchase money payable in three months for the sum of £25 and the residue being £25 more payable next Easter.


The first of the above notes were paid and applied by the Trustees towards getting timber and materials for building the new church.


1808, August 29th, the other note from Caleb Rodney was discharged by his account for nails and other articles fur- nished for the new Church.


Easter Monday, April the 18th, 1808. At a meeting of a number of the Vestry and other members of St. Peter's Church, at Lewes, the Wardens and Vestry appointed last year were continued for the ensuing year.

The above was settled by bill for porch and cash April 3d, 1809.


August 29th, 1808, the Wardens, Vestry, Trustees and other members of the Congregation of St. Peter's, at Lewes, having agreed to build a new church of the same size of the old one and to set it about thirty or forty feet to the south and west of the old Church, which was so much decayed that the carpenters and others considered it would not bear repairing, the new Church was raised in June, and was so far ready and prepared for the congregation to meet in and hear a sermon delivered by the Revd James Wiltbank, yesterday.


September the fifteenth, 1808, the new Church was this day completely finished and the workmen discharged; being about three months in building from the time it was raised.


Easter Monday, April 3d, 1809. This day the Wardens, Vestrymen and other members of the congregation of St. Peter's, at Lewes, met at Simon Marriner's and re-elected Samuel Paynter, Senr .. and Cornelius Wiltbank, Wardens. Vestrymen elected this year are: John Wolfe, William Wolfe, place of Jacob Hazzard, decd., Samuel Paynter, Junr., David Johnson, John Parker, Senr., Thomas Warrinton, Daniel Wolfe, Richard Howard, John Maull, Senr., Sylvester Webb, Charles M. Cullen and James Elliott-12. Also Charles M. Cullen and John Parker, Senr., were appointed to represent this Church in the Convention to be held at Milford this year.


Daniel Rodney, Chairman of the Trustees, was also re- quested to pay the delegates $4 for the annual contribution to the Convention, and to pay John McCracken the sexton $12 for his services in ringing the bell, &ca., for the year past.


At same time a full settlement was made between the Vestry and the Revd. James Wiltbank in which it was agreed by the Vestry to release any claim they had against him for arrears of subscriptions and by the Parson to release any claim which he had for arrears of salary, &ca.


Simon Marriner settled his rent due the tenth of last month in the following manner:

Easter Monday, April the 23rd, 1810. At a meeting of the Wardens and several others of the Congregation of St. Peter's this day, it was agreed to appoint Thomas Rodney and James Long as Vestrymen in the stead of James Elliott and Richard Howard and to continue the other Vestrymen and Wardens that were appointed last year for the ensuing year. Also Charles M. Cullen and Sylvester Webb were appointed as lay delegates to represent this Church in the Convention which is to meet in Milford the first Saturday in June next.


At same time Samuel Paynter, Senr., Daniel Rodney, George Parker, Cornelius Wiltbank, and John Parker, Senr., agreed that the mortgage given to them and others by the trustees in 1799 for the Church lotts and buildings should be discharged and that satisfaction should be entered thereon and on the margin of the Record.

This year, 1810, we have had no stated preaching the Revd. James Wiltbank having removed to Holmesburgh in Pen- sylvania.


Easter, April 15th, 1811. At a meeting this day the Wardens and the Vestry for the last year were continued and appointed for the ensuing year.


Hamilton Bell was ordained Deacon on Sunday, Septem- ber, 1747, in the Chapel of Fulham Palace. He was born in Dumfries, Scotland.


The Wardens and Vestry agreed to receive the Revd. Hamilton Bell as their Pastor to officiate in this Church every other Sunday, or once in two weeks during the year from the third Sunday before Easter and to pay him for said service one hundred and fifty dollars which sum they propose to raise by pew tax and subscription.

The Revd. Hamilton Bell died the twenty-sixth of Novem- ber, 1811, at his house in Dagsbury Hundred and was buried the twenty-eighth at Broad Creek Church.


So read the entries in the minutes of St. Peter's Vestry.


The Rev. Hamilton Bell was called to "officiate in Lewes, every other Sunday, or once in two weeks during the year from the third Sunday before Easter." This was Easter Monday, April 15, 1811.


The Rev. Hamilton Bell left two children, Elizabeth Hamilton Bell, and Mary Eleanor Bell. Mary Eleanor was under fourteen years of age at the time of her father's death. John Polk, merchant, of Little Creek, became their guardian.

The Rev. William Wickes was here in 1816. He was ordained Deacon by Bishop Seabury. Deposed, 1825.


The Rev. John Forman became Rector of St. Peter's parish August, 1817. November 27th, 1820, he resigned.


At a meeting of the Vestry, Easter Monday, April 4th, 1836, the Rev. C. E. Pleasants acted as chairman. He had resigned before March 27th, 1837.


At a meeting of the Vestry, Monday, March 31st, 1834, the Rev. Nathan Kingsberry was present as Rector.


At a meeting of the Vestry, Easter Monday, 1835, a com- munication from the Rev. Nathan Kingsberry stated that he had given up his charge in Sussex County on account of ill health, and had removed to New York.


At a meeting of delegates from five churches (Georgetown, Laurel, Dagsboro, St. Peter's, and St. George's) it was agreed to receive the Rev. Daniel Higbee as their Pastor.


December 10th, 1821, Daniel Higbee gave a receipt for $20,00 towards his services as Rector of St. Peter's Church. St. Peter's was to pay $180,00 To'0 a year, and the other churches $120 00


At a meeting of the Vestry April 20th, 1829, there is no mention of the Rev. Daniel Higbee.


Simon Marriner died July 2nd, 1811.

At a meeting of several of the Vestry, Wardens and Trus- tees the twenty-seventh of May, 1816, Thomas Rodney, and John Parker, Junr., were appointed the delegates to represent this Church in the State Convention, to be held at Milford, on Saturday the first of June next. Four dol- lars were sent by them as the contribution of this Church and $3.22 paid to them on their return for their extra ex- penses, by Chairman of Trustees.


Easter Monday, April the 7th, 1817, at a meeting of the Wardens, Vestry, and Trustees, the officers appointed in 1815 and continued last year were continued for the ensuing year.

Thomas Rodney and Daniel Wolfe, were appointed to represent this Church, as lay delegates in the State Con- vention, to be held in Milford, the first Saturday in June next.


Sarah Marriner paid $80 for a year's rent due tenth of last month; her amount for repairs to be taken out of this year's rent.


Mrs. Sarah Marriner died on Sunday the thirteenth of April, 1817.


The Wheat on the lott was cut and not taken off till August.


"16th February 1818 Received of Daniel Rodney, the sum of fifty dollars, on account of my services as Rector of the Parish of St. Peters at Lewes.

The Revd John Forman was received by the parishes of St. Peter's and St. George's as their Rector in August or Sep- tember last, at which Churches he was to preach once in three weeks, at one in the forenoon and the other in the afternoon, for the annual compensation of two hundred dollars or one hundred for each Church, as it was under- stood, and perhaps one-third of fifty dollars, may be ex- pected from the above mentioned Churches.


Easter Monday, March 23d, 1818. A meeting of the War- dens and Vestry of St. Peter's took place at the house of Thomas Warrington, at which it was resolved or agreed that all the officers appointed in 1815 and since continued, (except John Parker, Jun., and David Paynter who have moved out of the Parish), should be continued for the ensuing year; also that George Parker and Thomas Rodney should be a committee to rent the pews; also that Thomas Warrington who moved into the Old Court House in December last should have the house at the same rate Mrs. Marriner had, vizt., Eighty dolls. per annum. The rent was to com- mence at November Court, about the twentieth of Novem- ber.


The Trustees agreed to take the stable and carriage house of Reece Marriner, the admc, at the appraisement, $12, which, deducted from $35 left $23 due for last year's rent.


Charles M. Cullen and Daniel Wolfe appointed to attend the Convention to be held at Dover in June next. Delivd M.

Rodney.


The following persons were appointed to represent this church in the State Convention to be held in this church in June next, viz .: George Parker, Jr., Henry F. Rodney.
