WILLIAM H. ROSE, Geo. H, Thomas Post No. 5, Chi- cago. Born Feb. 13. 1812, at Granville, O. Enlisted Dec. 31, 1861, as Priv., In Co, H, 76th Ohlo Vols., and was discharged on expiration of terin of service at St. Louls, Mo., Dec, 31, 1861. Served In 15th Army Corps, and took part In following engagements: Fort Donelson, Shiloh, slege of Corinth, Milliken's Bend, Chickasaw, Bayou, Arkansas Post, siege of Vicksburg and assault, May 22, after which served until close of war as Asst. Provost Marshall, Jolned Geo, H. Thomas Post No. 5 June 26, 1879, and was Its Commander for the year 1887.
JOHN P. RILEY, Lyon Post No. 9, Chicago. Born near Milwaukee, Wis., Oct. 29. 1845; an orphan after the age of 5 years; was on a farm until Sept. 9, 1861, when he enlisted in Co. K. 2nd Wis. Cav., as Priv. Re-en- listed as Corp. in same Co. and Regt. Feb, 29, 1864. Was discharged as Sergt. and paid final payment at Madison, Wis., Dec. 16, 1865. Served first two and one-quarter years in Army of the Frontier, under Gens. Blount, Brown. Orde and Herron; later in all campaigns Army of the Gulf; then under Gen Greir- son in his Cav. Div. In 1865 Co. was Provost Guard under Gen. Custer in Texas. Was never absent nor in hospital one day except six weeks he carried dis- patches for Gen. Ord in Southwest Mo., and one month on confidential mission for Gen. Custer in Texas. Joined G. A. R. in 1867. Commander of Post No. 9 three years, and active in G. A. R. affairs.
JOHN M. KEENEY, U. S. Grant Post No. 28, Chicago. Born Sept. 21, 1842, at Crawfordsville, Ind. Enlisted Aug. 12, 1862, at Des Moines, la., in Co, R, 39th Iowa V. I. Discharged June 5, 1865, Served in the 4th Div. 15th Army Corps and engaged in the following battles: Red Mound, Tenn., Atlanta campaign, Kenesnw, Snake Creek Gap, Dalton, Resaca, Altoona Pass, where Regt. lost over onc.half of its number, marched with Sher- man to the Sen, through the Carolina's to Goldsboro and Raleigh where Johnston surrendered. thence to Richmond and Washington. On Grand Review. Sent to Clinton, Iowa, to be mustered out.
THOMAS FRANKLIN DORNBLASER, Geo. Il. Thomas Post No. 5, Chicago, Born June 27th, 1841, at Clinton- dale, Pa. Enlisted Oct. 14, 1861, and mustered into the service at Harrisburg, Pa., as a member of Co. E. 7th Pa. Cav. His regiment was sent directly to join Gen. Thomas in Kentucky, and remained in the Army of the Cumberland, until the close of the War. The principal battles in which he was engaged were, Lebanon, Murfreesboro, Franklin, Shelbyville, Chicka- mauga, Atlanta, Lovejoy Station, Rome, Duck River. Selma, Columbus and Macon. He was twice wounded. and had three horses shot under him. He re-enlisted as a veteran, in same Regiment, Dec. 26, 1863, and was discharged as Commissary Sergeant, at Macon. Ga., Aug. 24, 1865. The 7th Cavalry, was known as "The Saber Regiment." He has given his rem- iniscences in a book entitled, "Saber Strokes in the War."
WM. H. KING, Geo. II. Thomas Post No. 5, Chicago. Priv. corp, Co. B, 14th Wis. Inf. Enlisted Oct. 1, 1861, at Weyauwega, Waupaca Co., Wis., for three years, or during the war. Discharged Dec. 7, 1864. at St. Louis, Mo., by reason of expiration of term of service. Served three years two months and seven days.
HENRY HI. HENSHAW, Geo. H. Thomas Post No. 5, Chicago. Born Oct. S. 1839. in Summit, O. Enlisted May 1861, Co. A, 3rd Mich. Inf. for 3 months, but regiment was not accepted. Re-enlisted Sept. 23, 1861, as Private Co. C. 2nd Mich. Cav., re-enlisted as a Vet. same Co. and Regt. as Sgt. Jan. 4, 1864, discharged as Hosp. Steward by reason of disability at Nashville, Tenn., Jan. 18, 1865. Engaged in following battles, viz., New Madrid, Monterey, Farmington, Boonville, Rienza, Elizabethtown, Ky., Chaplin Hills ( Perryville) Glasgow, Bacon Creek, Brentwood, Thompson Station, Springhill Franklin, Triune, Eagleville. Shelbyville, Chickamauga, Dandridge, Knoxville. Sevierville, Mossy Creek, Nash- ville, besides many skirmishes in Mo. Ky. Tenn. Ala. Miss. & Ga.
HENRY D. FULTON, Geo. G. Meade Post No. 444, Chicago. Born in Allen Co., Ind .. April 17th. 1846. Enlisted as private Co. "E" 30th Ind .. Sept. 12th, 1862. Joined his regiment in Kentucky immediately after enlisting and participated with it in the battles of LaVergne, and in the campaign and battles of Stone River and Chica- mauga. Was wounded at Chicamauga on the first days of fight. Shot by Canister, shot through left shoulder joint causing resection and total disability of
left shoulder. Was discharged by reason of wound, April 21st, 1864. Joined Meade Post by transfer from Creston Iowa Post in 1885. Was elected Commander in 1892. Served in the 15th and 46th General Assemblies of the State of Illinois and was Chairman during both terms of the Soldiers and Sailors and Soldiers Orphan Homes. In this position he was enabled to enact into law, much beneficial legislation for the soldiers of this state.

ARTHUR DAWSON, Custer Post No. 40, Chicago. Born in England, June 27, 1845. Enlisted in the 15th Ill. Vol. Inf, Sept. 24, 1861, and reenlisted Jan. 1864, as a Veteran, at Vicksburg, Miss., was wounded at the battle of Shiloh, served in the Vicksburg Campaign, also with Sherman in Georgia, the March to the Sea, and through the Carolinas as Sgt. Maj. of the 15th Ill. Inf .. , promoted to Capt., Aug. 1865. Participated in the Grand Reviews at Washington, Since the war has engaged in the wholesale drug business in Chicago, and is now Pres. of Robert Stevenson & Co.
HENRY BARNARD, Geo. H. Thomas Post No. 5, Chicago. Born in Boston, Mass,, Sept. 27, 1847, Enrolled in the Charlestown City Guards, Co. H, 5th Mass. Vol. Inf., July 14, 1864. Mustered into U. S, service July 28, when regiment was ordered to Washington, D. C. On arrival at Baltimore, Md, July 31, was assigned to the Second Separate Brigade 8th Army Corps in de- fense of that city and awaiting further orders, Dur- ing the October election, guarded poils at Federals- burg, Oct. 17, enroute to join Gen. Sheridan at "Win- chester", while enroute our engine became disabled and were sent to Monocacy Junction on the B. & O. R. Took part in following battles and campaigns: Spring Hill, Tenn .; Franklin (Regt. capturing 300 prisoners, taking them to Nashville, where Thomas defeated and disorganized Hood's army). JAS. GRANT EVEREST, Gen. Il. Thomas Post No. 5. Chicago. Born in Pierpont, N. Y., on Jan. 9. 1834. In April, 1861, enlisted in Co. I. 13th Ill. Vol. Inf. as Priv. Was promoted through the different grades to Capt. of his Co. Served with the Army of the South- west under Gen. Curtis during the movement from Raleigh, through Mo. and Ark. to Helena, Ark., with the 1st Brig., 1st Div .. 15th Army Corps. Served as aid-de-camp on staff of Gen. Eugene E. Carr in Mo, and Ark. He served in every engagement of any note which included hls Regt. while in the Southwest. also after it was attached to the 15th Army Corps. Among these may be mentioned Chickasaw, Bayou, Arkansas Post, Grand Gulf, Raymond, Jackson, Cham- pions Hill, Black River Bridge, siege of Vicksburg. and battle of Jackson, Tuscumbia. Ala .; Lookout Mt .. Missionary Ridge and Ringgold Gap. Was mustered out of service at Springfield, Ill. June 23, 1864. Is om of the State Commissioners for Illinois of the Chicka- mauga & Chattanooga National Military Park and one of the U. S. Commissioners of the Nat. Military Park. Vicksburg, having been appointed by Pres, Mckinley in 1897. Is a member of the Loyal Legion, elceteil on June 14, 1888, first class, Insignia No. 6400, Ill. Com- mandery.

March 16, 1865. Discharged the service at Louisville, Ky, July 9, 1865. Service chiefly in the Army of the Tenn., with the 16th and 15th Army Corps. On the march with Sherman through Georgia and the Carolinas, the 7th Ill. Inf. was the advance of the 15th A. C as mounted Inf., and were armed with the Henry rifle (16 shooter). Was with the army at Appomattox when Lee surrendered, 1865. Shook hands with Abraham Lincoln at City Point, Va previous to Lee's surrender. LANSFORD W. NOYES, Irwin MeDowell Post 507, East St. Louis. Born April 21, 1847, at Lawrensville, St. Lawrence Co., N. Y. Enlisted Co. 1, 54th Regt. Ill. Vol. Inf., at Jonesboro, Ill., Nov. 20, 1861, being 15 years old. Jan. 1864, three-fourths of the Regt. re-enlisted as Vet. Vol. and were mustered, Feb, 9, 1864. Left for Matoon, Ill. for Vet. furlough, March 28, furlough having expired the Regt. re-assembled and went to the front. Was mustered out March 19. 1865. Is Commander Irwin McDowell Post No. 507, East St. Louis, II.
GEO. W. MacDONALD, Geo. H. Thomas Post No. 3, Chi- cago. Born in St. Louis, Aug. 17, 1851. Ran away from home and enlisted Feb. 12, 1862, as a drummer in Co. C, 65th Ill. Vol. under the assumed name of Hirom King, and was mustered into service March 28, 1862, when little more than 10 years old. The Regt. went from Chicago to Martinsburg, Va., after that to Win- chester, and then to Harper's Ferry, where they were captured, made prisoners, paroled and sent back to Chicago. Here his mother took him out of the army, but he ran away again to Camp Couglas. His mother then took him out of the army again by a writ of habeas corpus, Oct. 21, 1862.
A. T. BARTLETT, Matt. Starr Post No. 378, Jackson- ville. Commissioned Ass't. Surg. 3rd Cav. Mo. State Militia, April 21, 1862, promoted to Surgeon, and served with regiment until Feb. 15, 1863. April 15, re- commissioned Surg. 33rd Mo. Vol. Inf. and was re- ported present for duty every day until mustered out Aug. 10, 1865. Served on the field of battle at Spring- field, Mo., Jan. 8, 1863, also at Helena, Ark., July 4, 1863, but in subsequent battles, viz., on Red River campaign, Tupelo, Nashville, Mobile and numerous en- gagements of less importance, was a member of Board of Operators, Ist Div. 16th A. C. For a time Surg. in Chief of Dis. of Eastern Arkansas.
WILLIAM H. SNOW, Geo. H. Thomas Post No. 5, Chi- cago. Born April 11, 1833, at Thomaston, Me. En- listed June 15, 1864, as Landsman on U. S. Fri- gate Sabine, and was discharged as Corp. on U. S. S. Massasoit at Brooklyn Navy Yard, N. Y., June 27, 1865. Served on the U. S. Massasoit in all the cam- paigns and battles that the Navy took part on the James River, to the fall of Richmond, after close of war, was Carpenter on U. S. S. Hastler, on the Pacific Station. Received a Civil War Campaign Badge, is- sued by Act of Congress, "for officers and men of the Navy and Marine Corps of the U. S. who participated in engagements and campaigns deemed wortby of such commemoration." This on account of his services on board the U. S. S. Massasoit.

JOHN S. VARLEY, U. S. Grant Post No. 28, Chicago. Born June 23. 1842, in London, Eng. Enlisted at Chi- cago, April 10, 1861, for 5 years. Re-enlisted April 16, 1861, at Hamilton, O., in Co. A, 26th Regt. Ohio Vol. Inf. serving under Gen'ls Shenk & Wilder doing secret duty, and engaged in following battles: Perryville, Shiloh and Corinth, at which place he was wounded. Honorably discharged at Nashville, Dec. 2, 1862, re- enlisted as Priv. Co. L, 4th Regt. U. S. Cav., and was In battles of Stone River, Shelbyville, McMinnville, Chattanooga, Chickamauga, West Point, Thompson Station, Franklin, New Hope Church, Dalton, Resaca, Noonday Creek, Kenesaw Mountain, Okalona, Tallahatchie River, sicge of Atlanta, Lovejoy Station, Rome, Nash- ville, Columbia, and number of raids. Wounded at Selma, Ala., in a charge, captured while acting as Dis- patch Carrier, but escaped, assisted in capture of Capt. Wirz at Andersonville, Ga., and guarded Jeff Davis at Macon, Ga., discharged Dec. 2, 1865, at San Antonio, Tex., Past Commander U. S. Grant Post No. 28, and Past Sen. Vice Commander, Dept. of Ill.
MILTON M. POTTER, Geo. H. Thomas Post No. 5, Chi- cago. Born Jan. 29, 1838, Crawford Co., Pa. Enlisted Aug. 26, 1861, at Mendota, Ill., in Co. D, 55th Ill. Vol. Inf., and was discharged Aug., 1864. Re-enlisted April, 1864, at Larkensville, Ala. Was through campaign with Sherman to the sea, the Carolinas, Virginia to Washington, D. C., and in the Grand Parade. Was discharged at Little Rock. Ark., Aug. 14, 1865, as Quartermaster Sergt. The Regt. belonged to the Dept. of Tenn., and was in 32 engagements, all of which he participated, with the exception of one.

Eng., Feb. 3, 1865, and was discharged as such Aug. 27, 1869. Served on the U. S. ironclad Roanoke on James River blockade; also on U. C., 44th Ohio V. I. and was discharged as Segt. Feb. 22nd, 1864, to accept appointment as First Lieutenant Co. B. 1st U. S. Colored Heavy Art. Promoted to Captain, dis- charged at Chattanooga, Tenn., Aug. 31, 1865. Took part in following engagements: Lewisburg, Va., Ganley Bridge, Charlestown, Duton Hill, Ky., General Saunder's raid in East Tennessee. Capture of Knoxville and Cumberland Gap. Has been Post Commander in states of Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.

1862, Co. A. 4th Regt. Pa. Emergency Regt., guarding prisoners, Antietam campaign; also In June, 1863, en- listed in Co. 11, 28th l'a. N. G., guarding prisoners taken at Gettysburg, Enlisted In U. S. Navy at Phil- adelphia, Pa., Oct., 1863, and served on sloop Powha- tan, looking after blockade runners. Was in the cam- paign against Ff. Fisher, Der. 24 and 25, 1864, and also at the final battle and capture, Jan. 15, 1865. Was discharged at Boston, Mass., Oct., 1565,
SAMUEL J. HANNAN, George H. Thomas Post No. 5, Chicago. Born in 1840 at Hogansburg, N. Y. Enlisted May 16, 1864, as private Co. F, 141st Ill. Vol. Inf., for 90 days, and was discharged, holding rank of corporal, Oct. 10, 1864, at Camp Fry, Chicago, by reason of ex- piration of service.

Re- enlisted Nov, 19, 1862, as Private Battery L, 4th U. S. Art. and discharged in 1865, on expiration of term of service, at Ft Signal Hill, Va. Battery. Served in Army of the Potomac and James as detached Light Art., taking part in following battles and campaigns: Campaign of Mcclellan and retreat from Harrisons Landing, Blackwater campaign, 2nd battle of Malvern Hills, Was with Battery at Joiners Ford, slege of Suf- folk, Carrsville, Franklin, Jackson, N. C., Walthall Junction, Valley Farm, Proctors Creek, Gaines Farm, Cold Harbor, slege of Petersburg, slege of Richmond. Served 3 years without furlough, no Hospital calls, never wounded, nor taken prisoner.

NATHANIEL HAMOR, R. H. Graham Post No. 312, Mo- line. Born Dec. 25, 1842, in Greenville, Mercer County. Pa. Came to Illinois in 1854. Enlisted Aug. 9, 1862, as Priv. in Co. C, 102nd Ill. Vol., 1st Brigade, 3rd Division, 20th A. C. Army of Georgia. Took part In the following battles: Resaca, Cassville, Big Shanty, Burnt Hickory. Pine Mountain, Peach Tree Creek and Siege of Atlanta. Was brigade forager to the sea and through the Carolinas. Took part in the Grand Re- vlew in Washington, and was mustered out June 6th at Washington. Arrived in Chicago on June 9. On the 14th we received our discharge and pay. Arrived home the next day. Charter member of Post 394, Orion, I11., and Past Commander Post 312.
NELSON R. WOODS, Geo. H. Thomas Post No. 5, Chi- cago. Born Nov. 26, 1847, at Auburn, Geanga Co., Ohio, shipped at 412 Bank St .. Cleveland, O., July 15, 1863, as Landsman for one year, and was dischared by special order of Commodore D. P. Porter for disability contracted in line of duty, June 24, 1864. Re-enlisted March 6, 1865, in Co. E, 196th Ohio Vol. Inf. for one year, and discharged Sept. 20, 1865, at Ft. Federal Hill, Baltimore, Md. Was present on board U. S. Gun Boat Auochita during the engagements on the Red River and Black River during the campaign of the spring of 1864 under Banks and Porter. First term of service was on U. S. Gunboat Carondelet.
