Took part in following campaigns: Guarding the Memphis and Charleston and R. R. at La Fayette, Tenn .; campaign after Gen. Price. Took part also in following campaigns: Bank's expe- dition up Red River, 450 miles and return to New Or- leans on foot. to Sabine Pass and return to New Or- leans by transport, thence to Fort Jefferson, Fla .. until ordered home. JAMES M. EMERY, Geo. H. Thomas Post 5, Chicago. Born Jan. 1, 1845, Fairfield, Maine, Served with three brothers in Co. D., First Penn, Cav., 1861-2. June 1862 he was mustered into Batty. A, Third Penna. H. Art., where he served until Sept. 1863, when he was detailed for Marine duty in Genl. Graham's Naval Brig., and served on the army gunboats Flora Tem- ple, Smith Briggs and Genl. Jessup: operating in Chesapeake Bay, the Potomac and James Rivers and tributaries. Feb. 1. 1864, he was taken prisoner with the entire command, at Smithfield. Va., was confined in Pemberton tobacco warehouse, Richmond; on Belle Isle about five weeks and at Andersonville, Ga., one sear. one week and one day; from Mar. 17, 1864, until Oct. in the stockade, when he was taken to the en- closure called a hospital, and Mar, 25, 1865, was paroled by Capt. Wirz. He was a prisoner about fifteen months. Discharged at Philadelphia, Penn., June, 1865.

1856, settling in Bureau County, Illinois. Enlisted Oct Eth, 1861 as Private In Co. K. 57th Regiment Illinois Infantry Volunteers, serving the three years, enrolling as a Veteran Volunteer Dec. 27th, 1863 at Lynville, Tenn. Was in battles of Fort Henry, Donelson, Shlloh, First and Second Batties of Corinth, Resaca, Atlanta Campaign, Sherman's March to the Sea and Bentonville. N. C. Mustered out July 7th, 1865 at Loulsville, Ky.
WILLIAM SMITH, Custer Post No. 40, Chicago. Born May 4, 1847, at Jerseyville, Il1. Enlisted in the 113th
Reg. Co. F, Ill. Inf .. at Jacksonville, Ill., Dec. 18. 1862. At that place we were drilled about 2 months and then ordered to the front. Our first engagement was at Arkansas Post, then were ordered to Jackson, Miss., the beginning of the campaign against Vicks- burg. After the surrender of Vicksburg we were or- dered to Memphis. Tenn .. then followed the battles of: Bolliver, Ripley, Guntown, Coldwater, Twin Bridges, Nashville, Eastport, Johnsonville, Was aboard the Sultanna at the time of the explosion April, 1864. Was mustered out of service September 17th, 1865.
WILLIAM JAMES KNOX BOWEN, Geo. H. Thomas Post No. 5, Chicago, Born Oct. 29, 1844, at Amsterdam, N. Y. Enlisted Sept. 10, 1861, as Private 3rd Battery Wis. Light Art., and was discharged, at end of term of enlistment, Oct. 10, 1864, at Milwaukee, Wis. Engaged in following battles and campaigns: Slege of Corinth. march from Tupelo to Chattanooga, retrograde march to Louisville, Ky., '62, Chaplin Hlils ( Perryville) Stone River, Chickamauga, where Battery was captured. Especially detailed with others of Battery to serve with Battery M, N. Y. Lt. Art. on the Atlanta campaign, bringing about batties of Rockyface, Resaca, Dallas. Pine Mounain, Los Mountain, New Hope Church, Cuips Farm, Kenesaw Mt., and Atlanta, Sept. 15, 1864, was returned to his original command at Chattanooga, and soon thereafter received his discharge.

CYRUS W. POMEROY, George H. Thomas Post 5, Chicago. Born July 3ist, 1844, at Galena, Illinois, - with his father Watson Y. Pomeroy settled on a farm near Nora, Joe Davies County, Illinois, where he enlisted at the age of 18 years. August 4th. 1862, as a private in Co. "K," ninety- sixth Illinois Vol. Infantry, joined to First Division Reserve Corps Army of the Cumberland, was detailed to serve the regiment as Bass Drummer up to the time Martial Music by Regimental Bands, by General Orders was dispensed with, he returned to his Company as private in the ranks.
Was with the Regiment thru the many marches and campaigns in Kentucky and Tennessee and at the Battle of Chickamauga in the charges and counter charges over Snodgrass Hill was wounded Sunday, September the 20th, 1863, and it was five days before his wound could be properly dressed, Gangrene setting in. injured and destroyed five muscles above his left knee, causing him to walk on crutches and with a cane for over four years, -after two months treatment at Hospital No. 13 Nash- ville, Tenn., he was given a furlow to return home where he remained over two months until the Gen- eral Order from Washington required him to return to his Hospital, -being still unfit for service he obtained a transfer to the Marine Hospital in Chicago, being unable for further service in the Army his father interceeding, obtained a discharge from the Army June 16th. 1864.
Attended the State University at lowa City, lowa and engaged in the publishing business in Chi- cago in 1868, and later was employed as the representative of the Western Bank Note and Engraving Company, of Chicago. for 23 years,-then resigned in 1898, and established business in Chicago to originate, design, invent, manufacture and sell Bank and Office Necessities under the title of C. W. Pomeroy Co. (Not Incorporated) as indicated on opposite side of this page.
While attending the First Encampment of the G. A. R. in the South the fiftieth anniversary day and date of the battle of Chickamauga he visited the spot where he was wounded and obtained a Sas" S afras Tree cut of which a walking stick has been mounted for a Souvenir Cane.
