WARRANT FOR ANNUAL TOWN MEETING
NORFOLK, ss. To either of the Constables of the Town of Brain- tree. Greeting :
In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby directed to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Braintree, qualified to vote in elections therein, to meet at the poll- ing places in their respective Precincts, to wit :-
Polling Place in Precinct 1, Town Hall.
Polling Place in Precinct 2, Legion Building Hollis Avenue.
Polling Place in Precinct 3, Hose House, Allen Street.
On Monday, the second day of March, 1936, at five forty-five o'clock in the forenoon, then and there to bring into the Wardens of their respective Precincts their votes on the official ballot for a Mod- erator, Town Clerk, a Town Treasurer, one Selectman for a term of three years, one member of the Board of Public Welfare for a term of three years, one member of the Board of Assessors for a term of three years, one Water Commissioner and Commissioner of Sinking Fund for a term of three years, two members of the School Commit- tee for a term of three years, one member of the Municipal Lighting Board for a term of three years, one member of the Board of Health for a term of three years, one Sewer Commissioner for a term of three years, one Park Commissioner for a term of three years, a Tax Collector, a Tree Warden, two members of the Planning Board for a term of three years, two trustees of Thayer Public Library for a trm of two years, and fifteen Constables.
The polls will be opened at five forty-five o'clock in the forenoon, and will be closed at three o'clock in the aftrenoon.
You are further directed to notify and warn the said inhabitants qualified to vote as aforesaid to meet at the Town Hall in said ,Brain- tree on Monday, the ninth day of March, 1936, at seven forty-five o'clock in the evening, then and there to act upon the following arti- cles, namely :-
Article 1. To choose all Town Officers, except those elected by ballot.
Article 2. To hear and act upon the report of the several boards of Town Officers, and committees, and choose any committee the Town may think proper.
Article 3. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year, be-

ginning January 1, 1936, and to issue a note or notes therefor, pay- able within one year, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with Section 17, Chapter 44, General Laws.
Article 4. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year, be- ginning January 1, 1937, and to issue a note or notes therefor, pay- able within one year, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with Section 17, Chapter 44, General Laws.
Article 5. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Treas- urer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money for gen- eral municipal purposes under the authority of and in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 49 of the Acts of 1933, or take any action relative thereto.
. Article 6. To see if the Town will hold its Treasurer harmless on his bond for any loss which may arise from the failure of any National Bank or Trust Company in which the funds of the Town may be on deposit, said Bank or Trust Company being designated by the Selectmen.
Article 7. To see if the Town will hold its Collector harmless on his bond from any loss which may arise from the failure of any National Bank or Trust Company in which the funds of the Town may be on deposit, said Bank or Trust Company being designated by the Selectmen.
Article 8. To see if the Town will vote to raise or borrow and appropriate a sum of money for a Reserve Fund for extraordinary and unforseen expenditures during the current year.
Article 9. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise or borrow and appropriate for Interest and Maturing Debt the present year, or take any action relative thereto.
Article 10. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise or borrow and appropriate to meet the payment of certain bills contracted in several departments prior to December 31, 1935, or take any other action in the matter.
Article 11. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise or borrow and appropriate for Insurance on Town property and Workingmen's Compensation, or take any action relative thereto.
Article 12. To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise or. borrow and appropriate for the Norfolk County Hospital as- sessment, for maintenance and repairs.
Article, 13. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise or borrow and appropriate for Street Lighting.
Article 14, To see if the Town will vote to raise or borrow and appropriate a sum of money for the payment of printing and distri- bution of the Annual Report of the Town of Braintree for 1935.
Article 15. To see what distribution the Town will vote to make of the principal or income of the Thayer Fund.
.Article 16. To see what sums of money, in addition to that ap- propriated. under any other article, the Town will vote to raise or borrow and appropriate for LAND DAMAGES.

Article 17. To see if the Town will vote to raise or borrow and appropriate such sums of money as may be necessary for the purpose of restoring the seven and one-half percent salary reduction to all employees in the various departments and divisions of the Town, in- cluding the full complement of officials and employees of the Town of Braintree, and to vote said seve and one-half per cent salary res- toration to take effect as of January 1st, 1936, or take any action relating thereto.
SCHOOLS AND LIBRARIES
Article 18. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise or borrow and appropriate for the support of the Public Schools for the present year, or take any action relative thereto.
Article 19. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate such sum of money as may be necessary for the purpose of purchas- ing or taking land in Precinct Two: said land being lot 8 on Assessor's Plan number 2031, plot 24, consisting of 5394 square feet on Weston Avenue, or take any action relative thereto.
Article 20. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise o rborrow and appropriate for the Public Library, the present year, or take any action relative thereto.
GENERAL GOVERNMENT
Article 21. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise or borrow and appropriate for GENERAL GOVERNMENT for salaries and expenses for the following departments and other pur- poses, the present year, or take any action relative thereto.
1. Moderator.
2. Finance Committee.
3. Selectmen.
4. Accountant.
5. Town Engineer.
6. Assessors.
7. Treasurer.
8. Tax Collector.

Article 22. To see if the Town will raise and appropriate a sum of money in addition to sums of money already appropriated to cover the Town's share for materials, trucking and other necessary expendi- tures in connection with WPA activities or other Special Aid projects in conjunction with State or Federal Government as may be ap- proved by the Finance Committee, or take any action relative thereto.
Article 23. To see what further sums the Town will vote to raise by taxation and appropriate to meet certain incidental and miscel- laneous expenses not otherwise provided for, namely, GENERAL GOVERNMENT INCIDENTALS, the same to be in addition to any sums previously appropriated for said purposes.

PROTECTION OF PERSONS AND PROPERTY
Articl 24. To s whaet sums of money the Town will vote to raise or borrow and appropriate for the protection of persons and property the present year, or take any action relative thereto.
1. Life Guard at Sunset Lake.
2. Building Inspector.
3. Sealer of Weights and Measures.
4. Tree Warden's Department.
5. Moth Department.
6. Fire Department.
7. Police Department.
HEALTH AND SANITATION
Article 25. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise or borrow and appropriate for Health and Sanitation the present year, or take any action relative thereto.
Article 26. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise or borrow and appropriate for the maintenance and operation of the Water Department, including interest and debt on Water Loans, the same to be taken from the revnue of the Department, and the unexpended balance of 1935, or take any action relative thereto.
Article 27. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropri- ate a sum of money from the income and revenue of the Water De- partment of the Town of Braintree for the general operating ex- penses of the Town; and to see if the Town will vote to authorize the Water Commissioners to transfer the said sums of money to the Town Treasurer to be used to defray the general operating expenses of the Town, or take any action relative thereto.
Article 28. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to appropriate from the income of the Electric Light Department for the Depreciation Fund; for operating expenses, renewals, repairs, and new construction, or take any action relative thereto.
1. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate from the income of the Electric Light epartment, the sum of $300.00 for salaries of the Electric Light Commissioners; the sum of $27,816.01 for the Depreciation Fund; and the sum of $251,402.77 together with the un- expended balance of the year 1935 of $2,716.01, for operating ex- penses, renewals, repairs and new construction.
2. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate $2639.49 in settlement of the bills of the various Town Departments due the Electric Light Department for the years 1933 and 1935. The unpaid balance of $1,987.82 from 1933 is made up of Fire Depart- ment charges, Skating Rink, and Welfare charges. The 1935 balance of $651.67 represents the Welfare charges for that year.
Article 29. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropri- ate a sum of money from the income and revenue of the Electric Light Department of the Town of Braintree for the general operat- ing expenses of the Town; and to see if the Town will vote to author- ize the Electric Light Commissioners to transfer the said sum of money to the Town Treasurer to be used to defray the general oper- ating expenses of the Town, or take any other action relative thereto.
Article 30. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the Sewer Department the present year, to be expended by the Board of Sewer Commissioners, and act on any- thing relating thereto.

Article 31. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropri- ate a sum of money for the purpose of financing the construction of sanitary sewerage works in accrodance with the provisions of Chap- ter 17 of the Acts of 1930 and authorize and direct the Sewer Com- missioners to accept on behalf of the Town, for use in carrying out such project, a Federal grant of money pursuant to the Emergency Relief Appropriation Act of 1935; and authorize the Sewer Commis- sioners to construct said project and contract with respect thereto; and authorize the treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow such sums as may be necessary to meet any appropriation made; or take any action relative thereto.
RECREATION
Article 32. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise or borrow and appropriate for the general uses of the Board of Park Commissioners the coming year, or take any action relative thereto.
Article 33. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the purpose of grading, Draining and Con- structing a Base Ball Field and Foot Ball Field at Watson Park, or take any action relative thereto.
Article 34. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the purpose of Grading Draining and Con- structing a Base Ball Field and Foot Ball Field in the rear of the Braintree Highlands School, or take any action relative thereto.
Article 35. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropri- ate the money necessary to extend the 7-foot Chain Link Galvanized Iron Wire 2-inh mesh fence, running Northerly a distance of 45 Feet; thence 100 feet Easterly along the Westerly boundary of the Hollis Field, and Westerly a distance of 82 feet on the Southerly side of entrance to Hollis Field.
Article 36. To see what action the Town will take in regard to bills contracted in excess of appropriations in connection with an ERA project on the Adams Street Playground.
CEMETERIES
Article 37. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise or borrow and appropriate for the improvement of the Ceme- tery the present year, or take any action relative thereto.
Article 38. ON PETITION. To see if the Town in accordance with Chapter 114, Section 34 of the General Laws, will authorize the use of the following parcels of land for burial purposes as an exten- sion of the present Blue Hill Cemetery. Plot No. 6 containing about 5.10 acrse of land, Plot No. 5 containing about 12.35 acres of land and Plot No. 1 containing about 32,850 square feet of land all shown on Plan No. 2052 in the Assessor's Office of the Town of Braintree. Also the easterly part of Plot No. 4 shown on Assessors' plan No. 2053 being more specifically shown on sketch No. 261 on file in the Engineer's Office of the Town of Braintree containing about (10) acres of land be,ing shown on said sketch as "Plan of land in Brain- tree, Mass., dated October, 1920, by George W. Wetherbee Jr. C. E." Also another parcel of land bounded southerly by West Street 300 feet; westerly by Blue Hill Cemetery 600 feet; northerly by the par- cel just above described 300 feet; and easterly by said Plot No. 1 and

land of Pierce 600 feet. For title to this last parcel see deed from Charles Q. Hunt et ux, to Blue Hill Cemetery, dated August 30 1937, recorded with Norflok Deeds, Book 1759, Page 559. Containing about 4 1-7 acres of land.
Article 39. . ON PETITION .. To see if te Town in accordance with Chapter 114 Section 34 of the General Laws, will authorize the use of the following parcel of land for burial purposes as a new ceme- tery to be known as BLUE HILL MEMORIAL PARK CEMETERY, or otherwise. A certain parcel of land situated off West Street,. Graite Street and Wood Road, formerly called. Purgatory. Road, in Braintree, County of Norfolk, containing 204.15 acres of land be the same or less; and bounded: Northerly by land of Aage K. Hansen; Easterly by land of Antonia Avitabile; Southerly by land of Laura G. Pierce, et al; Westerly by land of Peter E. Cahill; Southerly by land of Peter E. Cahill; Easterly by land of Peter E. Cahill and Laura G. Pierce, et al; Southerly by land of Oranna Drollett and Blue Hill Cemetery; Easterly by land of Lena Heurlin; Southerly by land of Lena Heurlin; Southwesterly by land of the Commonwealth of: Massachusetts Blue Hills Reservation. The northwesterly boundary being the Quincy and Braintree Town Line. Said parcel is more particularly bounded and shown on a plan' entitled "Plan of Land in Braintree" scale 200 feet to an inch. : July 19, 1926, Ernest. W .: Branch, Civil Engineer.
SOLDIERS' BENEFITS
Article, 40. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise or borrow and appropriate for Soldiers' Relief, State Aid and Military Aid, and Memorial Day Observance, the present year or take any action relative thereto.
PUBLIC WELFARE
Article 41. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the PUBLIC WELFARE DEPARTMENT the present year, including Aid for Dependent Mothers, and Adequate Assistance to certain Aged Persons under the provisions of Chapter. 118A, Acts of 1931, or take any action relative; thereto.
HIGHWAYS
Article 42. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise or borrow and appropriate for the support of the Highway De- partment including labor repairs to highways, Town Ways and Bridges; also, for repairs and building sidewalks, stone roads and re- moval of Snow Oiling and Tarring of Streets; purchae of equipment for said department or take any action relative thereto.
Article 43. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the construction of sidewalks on Hobart Avenue, or take any action relative thereto.
Article 44. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a Town Way, EDGEMONT ROAD so-called, running easterly from Shaw Street, as laid out by the Board of Selectmen, and raise or borrow and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of the said way.
Articl 45. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise or borrow and appropriate for the purpose of leasing, or the purchase of a certain parcel of land in Braintree for the use of the Highway Department or take any action relative thereto.

Article 46. To see if the Town will vote to construct a DRAIN on Commercial Court, Precinct Three, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of the same.
Article 47. To hear the report of the Selectmen relative to the laying out of a part of (NEW) KING HILL ROAD, from Pond Street to Granite Street, under the provisions of Chapter 82 of the General Laws, and to see if the Town will vote to accept said Street as and for a public way, and will authorize the Selectmen to take by eminent domain, or acquire by purchase, any land necessary for said laying out; provide the sum or sum necessary to pay the cost of Land Dam- ages thereof, or take any action relating thereto.
MISCELLANEOUS
Article 48. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Se- lecten to sell, after first giving notice of the tie and place of sale by posting such notice of sale in some convenient and public place in the Town fourteen days at least before the sale, property taken by the town undr tax title procedure, provided the Selectmen or whomsoever they may authorize to hold such public auction may reject any bid which they deem inadequate, or take any action relative thereto.
Article 49 .. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropri- ate a sum of money for the improvement of CENTER STREET; said money to be used in conjunction with any money which may be al- loted by the State or County, or both, for this purpose; or take any action in relation thereto.
Article 50. To see what sum or sums of money the Town will appropriate to reimburse the Estate of Ellen Brown to compensate her estate for the use of premises by the Sewer Commission and for the Town to deposit refuse and other material thereon, or take any other action relative thereto.
Article 51. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropri- at a sum of money to collect ashes and refuse throughout the Town and appropriate a sum of money for the same.
Article 52. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise .or borrow and appropriate for the expenses of the Planning Board, or take any action relative thereto.
Article 53. To see what action the Town will take in regard to prohibiting swimming and bathing from the property of the Water Department at Sunset Lake.
Article 55. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to receive gifts in the form of contributions and agreed contributions, to be applied in re- duction of the general operation expenses of the Town for the cur- rent fiscal year.
Article 56. To see if the Town' will vote to raise and appropri- ate a sum of money for the purpose of financing the construction of Dam at outlet of Great Pond and the clearing and land takings around the pond necessary to raise the water level four fet and authorize and direct the. Board of Water Commissioners 'to accept on behalf of the Town, for use in carrying out such project, a Federal grant of money pursuant to the Emergency Relief Appropriation Acts of 1935 and authorize the Board of Water Commissioners to construct said project and contract with respect thereto, or take any action relative thereto.

Article 57. To see if the Town will pay any and all land, grade and drainage damages which may be caused by or result from the laying out and construction by the State Department of Public Works of a bridge and approaches to abolish the grade crossing of Union Street with the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad and will authorize the Board of Selectmen to sign an agreement therefor in behalf of the Town with said Department or take any other action thereto.
Article 58. To see if the Town will make an appropria,tion on account of land, grade and drainage damages which may be caused by or result from the laying out and construction of a bridge and approaches to abolish the grade crossing of Union Street with the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad or take any other action relating thereto.
Article 59. To see if the Town will request the Department of Public Works of the Comonwealth of Massachusetts to submit to the Secretary of Agriculture a project for the abolition of the grade crossing of Union Street with the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad for construction with funds apportioned to the Common- wealth under the Emergency Relief Appropriation Act of 1935 and will agree with said Department that if such a project is approved and constructed by the Department and the Secretary of Agriculture it therefore, at its own cost and expense, will maintain the project in a manner satisfactory to them or their authorized representative and will make ample provision each year for such maintenance, and will authorize the Board of Selectmen to sign such a request and agree- ment in behalf of the Town, or take any; other action relating thereto.
Article 60. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will adopt, and memorialize other Towns and Cities within the Commonwealth and the Great and General Court, urging them to adopt the substance of the following resolutions, or to see what action the Town will take with reference thereto :-
RESOLVED: That in the methods to be used in constructing and repairing our individual properties, those methods be adopted which will employ men rather than utilize machinery, to the exclusion of manual labor.
BE IT FURTHRER RESOLVED: - That in all contemplated projects of larger proportions to be done under contract, a stipula- tion be included in eah contract which shall specify what work is to be done by hand labor, and what is permitted to be done by ma- chinery :-
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED :- That in all work to be carried on by the several municipalities, such means be used as will absorb those at present unemployed, and thereby release the Federal Gov- ernment from the obligation, make to restore confidence throughout the. Country besides curtailing the elaborate work of administration which now causes the extra burden of expense to the people.
You are directed to serve this warrant by posting true and at- tested copies thereof in three public places in each voting Precinct in said Town of Braintree, ten days at least before said second day of March 1936, and by publishing the same once each week for two successive weeks in the Braintree Citizen, the first publication to be at least eight days before said meeting.

Hereof fail not, and make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon, to the Town Clerk before said meeting.
