Gallup'a Island, containing 25.1 acres, purchased in 1860 for $6,600 by the city of Boston; purchased in 1916 hy the United States Government. Occupied by Quarantine Sta- tion

Little Brewster Island, 3.6 acres, owned by United States occupied by Boaton Light; under jurisdiction of Town of Hull


Little Calf Island, 1.1 acrea. Owned by United States, purchased 1917. Under jurisdiction of Town of Hull


Long Island, containing about 215.5 acres, upon which are located Almshouse and Hospital. In 1885 the City of Boaton purchased 182.5 acres for $164.000. In 1900, 10.5 acres were conveyed to the U. S. Government for $18,540.80. leaving 172 acres owned by the city. Fort Strong and Light- house on Long Island Head. The U. S. Government pur- chased 1.2 acres in 1819, 31.8 acres in 1867 and 10.5 acres in 1900 43.5 acres owned by the U. S. government


Lovell'a Island, 71.1 acres, owned by the United States, occupied by Government Buoy Station and Fort Standish


Middle Brewster Island, 12.2 acres. Owned by United States, purchased 1917. Under jurisdiction of Town of Hull


Moon Island, containing about 30 acres. Taken by right eminent domain in 1879. It constitutes the point of dis- charge of the main drainage system. Under jurisdiction of City of Quincy


Outer Brewster Ialand, 17.5 acres. Owned by the United Statea, purchased 1913. Under jurisdiction of Town of Hull Rainsford Island, containing 17.4 acres, owned hy City of Boston was purchased together with all hospital buildings and dwellinga thereon, in 1871, for $40,000. Suffolk School for Boys is located upon this island


Spectacle faland, 61.4 acres, owned by N. Ward & Co., city of Boaton and United States Government. City owns 6.1 acres purchased in 1914


Thompson'a Faland, 146.5 acrea, annexed to Boston by act of March 15, 1834. Owned and occupied by Farm and Trade School for Boys

Area to ward linea (26 wards), 30,598 acres (i. e., 47.81 aquare miles), 2,705 acres being Glled land and 1,143 acres water area. Land area only, 27.732 acres (i. e., 43.33 aquare milea). Original Boston contained about 780 acres of land. Of the twelve leading American citiea. Gve are larger in land area than Boaton, viz., New York, Chicago, Philadel- phia, St. Louis and San Francisco. The only city in Massa- chusetts with larger land area is Taunton
