The object of the Salvation Army is to carry the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to the thousands who today never darken the doors of the places of worship and to bring the Bible message to the outcast of society, whether in prison or brothel or any place harboring vice, iniquity or intem- perance.
When a hungry man is given a meal, or a worker visiting a slum home with a basket of life's necessities, Thanksgiving or Xmas dinners given to the poor, it is not only to relieve an immediate need, it is for a higher purpose of bringing them the message of the Gospel of Light and Love, that the recipient of the humble gifts may think of Him who was rich, but for our sakes became poor and took upon Himself the form of man, and by paying the debt of sin made it possible for us to be reconciled with the Father by the gift of Himself.
Our constant effort is to help others to help themselves; eventually they too become helpers to others.
