TOWN CLERK'S REPORT


To the Citizens of the Town of Douglas:


Following is the Annual Town Clerk's Report:


VOTES PASSED BY THE TOWN SINCE THE ANNUAL TOWN MEETING


Special Town Meeting Monday, October 3, 1955, 7:30 P.M.


ARTICLE 1. Mr. Baylis Aldrich read a report of the School Survey Committee while Mr. William J. Dunleavy read a report of the School Committee on the proposed changes in the schools.


ARTICLE 2. The Town voted to table this.


ARTICLE 3. The Town voted to authorize the Selectmen to appoint a committee of no less than three and not more than seven to study and review the entire school problem of Douglas, including administration and organization, the various and special reports sub- mitted to date and the question of school building additions, said committee to report to the Town by the next Annual Town Meeting.


ARTICLE 4. The Town voted to table this.


ARTICLE 5. The Town voted that a special unpaid committee composed of two of the School Committee and three of the general public be named by the Moderator to look into the feasibility of re- gionalization with a neighboring town for a High School and report at the next Annual Town Meeting.


ARTICLE 6. The Town voted to authorize the School Com- mittee to use their own judgment in disposing of old and obsolete desks, chairs and other miscellaneous school fixtures and furniture now in storage.

Special Town Meeting, Tuesday, December 27, 1955, 7:00 P.M.


ARTICLE 1. The Town voted to raise and appropriate the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars ($150.00) for the maintenance of the Ground Observer Corps the same to be taken from surplus funds in the hands of the Treasurer.


ARTICLE 2. The Town voted to raise and appropriate the sum of two hundred and seventy-five dollars ($275.00) for the Health Department, the same to be taken from surplus funds in the hands of the Treasurer.

ARTICLE 3. The Town voted to raise and appropriate the ad- ditional sum of seven hundred and twenty-five dollars ($725.00) for the Tree Department the same to be taken from surplus funds in the hands of the Treasurer.


ARTICLE 4. The Town voted to raise and appropriate the ad- ditional sum of five hundred dollars ($500.00) for the Bridges, the same to be taken from surplus funds in the hands of the Treasurer.


ARTICLE 5. The Town voted to raise and appropriate the ad- ditional sum of eight hundred dollars ($800.00) for Disability As- sistance, the same to be taken from surplus funds in the hands of the Treasurer.


ARTICLE 6. The Town voted to raise and appropriate the ad- ditional sum of one hundred and seventy-five dollars ($175.00) for the Public Library, the same to be taken from surplus funds in the hands of the Treasurer.


ARTICLE 7. The Town voted to transfer the sum of five thou- sand seven hundred dollars ($5,700.00) from the Machinery Rentals fund to the Machinery Accounts.


ARTICLE 8. The Town voted to raise and appropriate the sum of three thousand, three hundred dollars ($3,300.00) for the Ma- chinery Account, the same to be taken from surplus funds in the hands of the Treasurer.


ARTICLE 9. The Town voted to transfer the sum of six hun- dred and seventy-five dollars ($675.00) from the Highway Compen- sation Insurance Fund to the Special Highway Insurance Account.


ARTICLE 10. The Town voted to raise and appropriate the ad- ditional sum of seven hundred and seventy-five dollars ($775.00) for the Special Highway Insurance Account, the same to be taken from surplus funds in the hands of the Treasurer.


ARTICLE 11. The Town voted to transfer the monies received by the Town Treasurer as reimbursement from certain insurance companies for repairs to the Water Department Equipment and Pumping Station Building being the sum of two hundred and sixty- seven dollars and eighteen cents ($267.18) to the Water Department General Account.

The Board of Engineers again recommend that the Town should give serious consideration to the purchase of a new Fire Truck for the safety of the people of Douglas.


At the present time the Department consists of a 1935 Ford Truck-a 1939 GMC Truck that was purchased from the Govern- ment second hand and made over into a Fire Truck-a 1939 Dodge Pickup Truck that was bought second hand for Forest Fires and a 1946 Jeep that is used for Forest Fires.


During the year 1955 thirty-six calls were answered by the Fire Department for the use of the Ambulance.
