WARRANT FOR ANNUAL TOWN MEETING, MARCH
4, 1901.
COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS.

To either constable of the town of Milford, in said county,
Greeting :
In the name of the Commonwealth aforesaid, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of said Town, qualified by law to vote in elections and in Town affairs, to meet at the Town House, in said Town, on Monday, the fourth day of March, A. D., 1901, punctually at six o'clock in the forenoon, to act upon the following articles, namely :-
[The polls may be closed at four o'clock in the afternoon on said day of meeting.]
ARTICLE 1. To choose a moderator to preside at said meeting.
ARTICLE 2. To choose all necessary Town officers for the year ensuing : A town clerk, town treasurer, tax collector, au- ditor, three selectmen, three assessors, three overseers of the poor, two members of the school committee, two trustees of the public library, one member of the board of health, (three years,) two trustees of Vernon Grove cemetery, and fifteen constables ; to be voted for on ballots prepared and furnished in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 548 of the Acts of 1898; also upon said ballots the voters will give in their votes "Yes" or "No" in answer to the question, "Shall licenses be granted for the sale of intoxicating liquors in this town ?"
ARTICLE 3. To hear and act upon the reports of the se- lectmen, school committee, overseers of the poor, treasurer,

engineers of fire department, tax collector, trustees of Vernon Grove cemetery, trustees of public library, and any other offi- cers and committees of said Town.
ARTICLE 4. To raise and appropriate such sum or sums of money as may be necessary to defray Town expenses for the year ensuing.
ARTICLE 5. To see what action the Town will take in regard to lighting its streets, and raise and appropriate money for the same.
ARTICLE 6. To see if the Town will authorize the treas- urer to borrow money in anticipation of the taxes of the cur- rent year.
ARTICLE 7. To determine when all taxes shall be collect- ed and paid into the treasury the year ensuing, and to fix the compensation of the collector of taxes for collecting the same.
ARTICLE 8. To see if the Town will raise and appropri- ate one hundred and fifty dollars towards defraying the ex- penses of Memorial Day.
ARTICLE 9. To see if the Town will authorize the select- men to take charge of all legal proceedings for or against the Town.
ARTICLE 10. To see if the Town will raise and appropri- ate the sum of three hundred dollars for the transplanting and care of shade trees, to be expended under the direction of the tree warden.
ARTICLE 11. To see if the Town will authorize the se- lectmen to lease the court room for a term of five years.
ARTICLE 12. To see if the Town will grant the free use of the Town Hall one night in each week in the interest of temperance and labor.
ARTICLE 13. To see if the Town will appropriate money for a fire alarm box to be located near the Draper property on Water street.
ARTICLE 14. To see if the Town will grant the Milford Poultry association the use of the Town Hall the second week

in December in each year, for the expense of heating and lighting.
ARTICLE 15. To see if the Town will grant the free use of the Town Hall to any religious or charitable society.
ARTICLE 16. To see if the Town will vote to purchase seventy bound copies of the Town History, or take any action in relation to the same.
ARTICLE 17. To see if the Town will vote to construct a sewer on School street, from the new high school, to connect with the Main street sewer, raise and appropriate money therefor, or take any action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 18. To see if the Town will raise and appropri- ate money for a chemical combination wagon for the fire de- partment, or take any action in relation to the same.
ARTICLE 19. To see if the Town will raise and appropri- ate money for a fire alarm box, to be located near the Milford Pink Granite works on East Main street.
ARTICLE 20. To see if the Town will raise and appropri- ate two hundred dollars to build a gravel sidewalk on the westerly side of Grant street, from Walnut street to the ter- minus of said street, or take any action in relation to the same.
ARTICLE 21. To see if the Town will vote to insure the Town property against loss by fire.
ARTICLE 22. To see if the Town will vote to straighten the Charles River from a point about thirty rods below Cen- tral street; raise and appropriate five hundred dollars for the same.
ARTICLE 23. To see if the Town will vote to establish a paid police force, or take any action in relation to the same.
ARTICLE 24. To see if the Town will authorize the assessors to prepare a new valuation list and print the same for distribution, and appropriate the sum of four hundred dol- lars for the same.
ARTICLE 25. To see if the Town will accept and allow the report of the selectmen on the laying out of Alden street (so-called).

ARTICLE 26. To see if the Town will accept and allow the report of the selectmen on the laying out of Edward street (so-called), raise and appropriate money therefor, or take any action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 27. To see if the Town will accept and allow the report of the selectmen on the laying out of John street (so-called), raise and appropriate money therefor, or take any action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 28. To see if the Town will accept and allow the report of the selectmen on the laying out of the private way known as Bragg slip, extending from Jefferson street in a southerly direction to South Bow street, raise and appropriate money therefor, or take any action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 29. To see if the Town will accept and allow the report of the selectmen on the laying out of the private way known as Prentice avenue, extending from Spruce street to State street, raise and appropriate money therefor, or take any action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 30. To see if the Town will accept and allow the report of the selectmen on the laying out of the private way known as Genoa avenue, extending from Cedar street five hundred and forty-two feet in a westerly direction, raise and appropriate money therefor, or take any action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 31. To see if the Town will accept and allow the report of the selectmen on the laying out of the private way known as Columbus avenue, extending from Cedar street five hundred and forty-two feet in a westerly direction, raise and appropriate money therefor, or take any action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 32. To see if the Town will accept and allow the report of the selectmen on the laying out of the private way known as South Cedar street, extending from Depot street in a southwesterly direction to the land of New York, New Haven & Hartford R. R. company, raise and appropriate money therefor, or take any action in relation thereto.

ARTICLE 33. To see if the Town will accept and allow the report of the selectmen on the laying out of a Town way from Main street, opposite Adin street in a southeasterly di- rection to the boundary line between Milford and Hopedale.
ARTICLE 34. To see if the Town will accept and allow the report of the selectmen on the laying out of the extension of Church street, raise and appropriate money therefor, or take any action in relation thereto.
ARTICLE 35. To see if the Town will vote to locate an electric light near the corner of Spring and Main streets, raise and appropriate money therefor, or take any action on the same.
And you are hereby directed to serve this warrant by posting up attested copies thereof, at each of the public meet- ing-houses and at the post-office in said Town; also cause an attested copy to be published in the Milford Daily News, Mil- ford Daily Journal and Milford Gazette, newspapers published in said Town, two Sabbaths at least before the time set for said meeting.
Hereof fail not, and make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon to the clerk of said Town, at the time of meeting aforesaid.

At a legal meeting of the inhabitants of the Town of Mil- ford, qualified by law to vote in elections and in town affairs, holden this fourth day of March, A. D., 1901, at six o'clock in the forenoon, the said inhabitants proceeded as follows :-
The meeting was called to order by the town clerk, who read the warrant and the officer's return thereon.
Article 1. Balloting, the meeting made choice of Low- ell E. Fales as moderator, the voting list being used.
[14 ballots cast, all of which were for Lowell E. Fales.] The polls were opened at 6.25 A. M.
Voted : To close the polls at 4.30 P. M.
Due notice having been given, the polls at 4.30 P. M. were declared closed.

Charles W. Carroll, who had been appointed to check the list, was duly sworn in by the town clerk.
S. A. Eastman and D. J. Sullivan, inspectors, and G. L. Maynard and M. G. Lynch, deputy inspectors, were duly sworn in by the town clerk.
Voted: That the moderator appoint a committee of 25 to act as a finance committee to make a report on appropriations for the year ensuing, and to report at adjourned meeting Mon- day, March 11, 1901, at 7.30 P. M.

pose of taking out, sorting and counting the ballots. First at 9.30 A. M., when it registered 402; then at 10.45 A. M., when it registered 811; then at 12.15 r. M., when it registered 1128; then at 3.10 p. M., when it registered 1775 ; and at the close of polls, when the box registered 1913.

In pursuance of a vote passed at the adjourned Town meeting held March 11, 1901, the inhabitants of the Town of

Milford met in the Town Hall, and proceeded to act upon the various articles in the warrant.
The meeting was called to order by Lowell E. Fales, mod- erator.
Under Article 2, John J. Shockrow and Edmund Murphy were chosen field drivers. Chester L. Clark, I. N. Davis and George S. Whitney were chosen fence viewers. Michael Mc- Keague, William H. Bourne and Charles W. Wilcox were chosen park commissioners. Edmund Murphy was chosen pound-keeper. Thomas Gilmore, Fruit street, was chosen tree warden.
Article 3. Voted : That the article be laid upon the table.

Article 5. Voted: To pass over the article.
Article 6. Voted: That the treasurer be and is hereby au- thorized to borrow money at any time during the municipal year in various amounts not exceeding fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) in all, and give the negotiable notes of the Town therefor, payable within one year from the date of their incur- rence, the same to be paid out of the taxes assessed for the year 1901.
Article 7. Voted: That the taxes become due Sept. 10, and that all taxes paid on or before that time shall be dis- counted 2} per cent, and interest at the rate of one half of one per cent per month be added to all taxes not paid by Sept. 10, and that the collector be authorized to use all means of collect- ing taxes which a town treasurer when appointed collector may use.
Voted: That the collector be paid for collecting the first seven-tenths of the taxes committed to him one half of one per cent; for the next two-tenths, one per cent, and for the remain- ing one-tenth, five per cent of all taxes collected or abated,
