Article 15. Voted: That the Town raise and appro- priate the sum of Two hundred dollars ($200.00) for the purpose of installing and maintaining of electric lights on Main Street during the Christmas holidays and the balance if necessary to be made up by the merchants of the Town.

Article 16. The following report on Mayhew Slip was read by the Clerk.


Report of the Selectmen on the laying out of Mayhew Slip.


For the purpose of relaying a public way known as Mayhew Slip, extending southerly from Water Street, the Selectmen of Milford, Mass., after giving due notice in writing to all parties interested they having signed releases therein, proceeded on the 12th day of March 1940, to lay out said street as follows:


Beginning at a point on the southerly side of Water Street at northwesterly corner of land of one Clifford, thence, southerly 394' by land of Clifford and one Her- lihy to land of one Daley, thence, westerly by land of said Daley 20', thence northerly by land of one Baker, Servi- dore, Keleoski, and Todino, 281.6' to southerly side of Water Street, thence easterly on southerly side of Water Street to point of beginning.


This street to be known as Mayhew Slip, this street to be 20' wide.

Said layout is shown on plan marked Mayhew Slip filed herewith, dated February 1940, made by James T. Slattery, Engineer.

Voted: That the Town assume liability in the manner provided by section 29 of Chapter 91 of the General Laws and Chapter 513 of the Acts of 1939, for all damages that may be incurred by damages that may be incurred by work to be performed by the Department of Public Works of Massachusetts in rivers and streams of the town in accordance with the provisions of said Chapter 513, and authorize the Selectmen to execute and deliver a bond of indemnity therefor to the Common- wealth.

Article 19. A motion was made to raise and appro- priate the sum of Five hundred ($500.00) dollars to be used for piping and materials in conjunction with a W.P.A. project in piping brook in section of Town Park.


The motion was amended to read: Voted: That the Town appropriate from the Tools and Material Fund W.P.A. the sum of Five hundred ($500.00) dollars for piping and materials to be used in piping brook in section of Town Park, said work to be done in conjunction with W.P.A.

Article 20. A motion was made that the Town raise and appropriate the sum of Twenty-five hundred ($2,- 500.00) dollars for continuance of the Sewerage from the Hoboken Citizen's Club to Alden Street, thence on Alden Street to end of said Alden Street, a distance approxi- mately ten hundred and fifty yards (1050).


An amendment was made that the Town appropriate the sum of Twenty-five hundred ($2500.00) dollars for continuance of the sewerage from Hoboken's Citizen's Club to Alden Street thence on Alden Street to end of said Alden St. approx. 1050 ft. from the Tools and Mate- rials Fund W.P.A. and to have work done in conjunction with W.P.A.

Article 22. A motion was made that the Board of Selectmen are hereby authorized to appoint an unpaid committee of three to be known as the Municipal Field Committee who shall work out a W.P.A. project for the erection of an enclosed athletic field on the so-called foundry site, which project, under the direction of the Selectmen, will be financed from the funds voted at this town meeting for the purchase of materials and truck hire for W.P.A. projects. This Committee, with the approval of the Selectmen, shall also fix a percentage to be paid by all users of the Field so that the field may be maintained without expense to the town.


An amendment was made that a committee of five be appointed one from each precinct and to be selected by Members from each Precinct.

Chapter 40, Sections 25-30A (inserted by Statute 1933, Chapter 269) as amended, for the purpose of originally establishing the boundaries of the districts and the regulations and re- strictions to be enforced therein and adopt such ordi- nances or by-laws with respect thereto as may be con- tained in said recommendations.


Voted : To pass over.


The meeting was adjourned until Wednesday, March 20, 1940 at 8 P.M. and the warrant dissolved at 11 P.M.

ADJOURNED TOWN MEETING, March 20, 1940 COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS

Milford, March 20, 1940.


The Monitors checked the lists and 160 being present the meeting proceeded as follows:


Article 24. Voted: That the selectmen be authorized to sell the premises located on the southerly side of Cen- tral Street at or near Beach Street Extension, formerly known as the "Hoboken" School, and to execute, acknowl- edge and deliver a proper deed or deeds therefor.


Voted: To pass over the remainder of the article.


Article 25. Voted: That the Selectmen be authorized to sell the premises located on the easterly side of Beaver Street formerly known as the "Bear Hill School" and to execute, acknowledge and deliver a proper deed or deeds therefor.


Voted: To pass over the remainder of the article.


Article 26. A motion was made that the Selectmen be authorized to sell a portion of the premises now owned by the Town as part of the Cedar Swamp Pond Develop- ment, bounded and described as follows: Commencing at the northwesterly corner of land of one Casassanta and the northeasterly corner of land of one Diotalevi; thence in a curved line easterly and northerly along the shores of Cedar Swamp Pond, 220 feet more or less on the northerly side of land of one Casassanta, 30 feet more or less by the westerly side of land of one Delledonna, and 140 feet more or less by the westerly side of land of one DeGregorie; thence westerly 130 feet; thence southerly 190 feet more or less to the point of beginning ; and containing about 31,500 square feet.

Article 27. Voted: That the Selectmen be authorized to appoint a Committee of five (5) citizens for the pur- pose of investigating the advisability of amending the Traffic Rules and Regulations with respect to limited time parking on certain streets.

Article 28. A motion was made that the Town raise and appropriate the sum of Eight hundred ($800.00) dollars for drainage and repairs of lower end of Fells Avenue.


An amendment was made to the motion that the Town appropriate the sum of Five hundred ($500.00) dollars from Tools and Materials Account W. P. A. to take care of the drainage of lower end of Fells Avenue.


The motion was carried and it was Voted: That the Town appropriate the sum of Five hundred ($500.00) dollars from Tools and Materials Account W. P. A. to take care of the drainage of lower end of Fells Avenue.

Article 33. Voted: That the Town raise and appro- priate the sum of Sixty-five hundred ($6500.00) dollars for repairs to the Plains Primary School.

Article 34. A motion was made that the Town raise and appropriate the sum of Two hundred ($200.00) dol- lars to repair the Town Park Bleachers to be expended under the direction of the Park Commissioners.


An amendment was made to the motion that the Town appropriate the sum of Four hundred ($400.00) dollars for the repairs to Town Park Bleachers and Fencing in front of Bleachers by means of a W. P. A. project, said project to be financed from the funds voted at this town meeting for the purchase of tools and materials and truck hire for W. P. A. projects, said project to be started as soon as possible.

Pursuant to a Warrant signed by the Selectmen of Mil- ford, the inhabitants of the Town of Milford qualified by law to vote in Primaries met in Dewey Hall, in said town on Tuesday, the 30th day of April, A.D. 1940, and were called to order by John H. Gardella, Selectman, Presiding Election Officer, at 2 o'clock P. M.


The Town Clerk read the Warrant and the Officer's return thereon. All legal requirements having been complied with, the polls were declared open at 2 o'clock P. M.

During the voting the ballot box was opened four times for the purpose of taking out, sorting and counting the ballots. First at 4:40 P. M. when the box registered 298; then at 5:30 P. M. when it registered 415; then at 6 P. M. when it registered 502 and at 8 P. M. when it registered 1034.
