The year has been a relatively good one so far as the usual communicable diseases were concerned. Be- cause of an expected epidemic of contagious diseases, careful checking on the part of the teachers and inten- sive follow up of the absentees by the nurse in the ele- mentary grades the attendance has been good.

Resolutions

Whereas, it has pleased Almighty God, in His divine omniscience, to remove from our midst our beloved friend and former teacher and principal, Katherine G. McDer- mott, a member of the Milford Teachers Association from its inception ; and

Whereas, her sister has been deprived of the love and devotion of a loyal, tender companion ever solicitous of her spiritual and temporal welfare; the community, of a citizen of sterling worth and integrity, whose daily life was a glowing example of gracious womanhood, whose thoughtful kindness endeared her to all those with whom she came in contact ; and

Whereas, her many pupils and those teachers who served with her during her terms of leadership in the South Grammar and Park Schools will ever treasure the memory of happy days spent in an environment of cheer- fulness and righteous living where Christian principles were exemplified daily ; and

Whereas, we bow submissively to God's holy decree, being mindful of the eternal reward promised in his own words, "If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love ;"

Therefore, be it resolved, that we herewith tender to her sister our sincere sympathy in her bereavement, ask- ing God's consolation and assistance for her in her hour of sorrow ; and

Be it further resolved, that her sister be presented with a copy of these resolutions, that a copy be inscribed upon our records, and that a copy be inserted in The Massachusetts Teacher.

MILDRED C. O'BRIEN, GERTRUDE A. WALLACE,

ELEANOR J. DAIGLE, Resolutions Committee.

396

Resolutions

Whereas, with the passing of M. Avis Moran, a val- ued teacher in the Purchase Primary School, the com- munity has lost an esteemed citizen, her co-workers a congenial companion, efficient and conscientious in the classroom, respected and beloved by those with whom she came in contact; and

Whereas, by her death we have sustained a loss which will leave with us forever an indefinable sense of sorrow; and

Whereas, we bow submissively to God's holy decree, in His all-wise omnipotence, and humbly commend her spirit to the loving and merciful Father Who alone can read all hearts;

Therefore, he be resolved, that while we mourn the untimely passing of our associate, M. Avis Moran, it is with a deep and abiding faith in the infinite wisdom of Almighty God that we express the heartfelt sympathy of our Association on the occasion of her death; and

Be it further resolved, that a copy of these resolu- tions be inschibed upon our records, presented to her fam- ily, and printed in The Massachusetts Teacher.

MILDRED C. O'BRIEN, GERTRUDE A. WALLACE, ELEANOR J. DAIGLE, Resolutions Committee.

During the year, changes in regular schedules have occurred in the program of the Milford Teachers' Asso- ciation as in all public activities of the town, due to the demands of war and its resulting emergencies. Many of the customary events have been curtailed, as the teachers gave their time and energy to registrations and war rationing of sugar, gasoline, and oil.

Donations were given to the Red Cross, Boy Scouts, and the U.S.O. The Library Committee, composed of Misses Madeleine Kynoch, Mildred O'Brien, and Ada Di- Giannantonio, working with Miss Mae Comba, Librarian, chose the following books as our annual gift to the Mil- ford Public Library :

Freedom Under God, Fulton J. Sheen; The Jewish Festivals, Hayyim Schauss; What Men Live By-Work, Play, Love, Worship, Richard C. Cabot.

We take this opportunity to pay tribute to four of our members on leave of absence while in the armed serv- ice of the United States: Capt. David I. Davoren, Capt. Benjamin Consoletti, Lieut. Charles Brucato, and Corp. Gerard Sweeney.

We note with regret the deaths of Miss Katherine G. McDermott, retired principal of the Park School, and Miss M. Avis Moran, teacher in the Purchase Primary School.

Robert J. Cenedella, president, resigned during the Christmas recess and was succeeded by Miss Hannah E. Callanan of the Milford High School faculty.

GERTRUDE E. MORAN,

Secretary.

CLASS ODE Tune: "Evening Song" by Mozart

Hear, thou, our farewell, dear Milford High. Now we must leave thee; time passes by.

But our hearts will not forsake thee, though we're not nigh.

"Loyalty binds us" to thee as we part From friends and pleasures dear to our heart.

In the future we shall miss thee; our friend thou art.

So as life's pathway leads us from thee On, ever onward, where we may be, May we always sing thy praises, "Hail, hail to thee!" By Edith Celley
