In memory of MRS. ELIZABETH BROOKS, widow of the Hon. Eleazer Brooks, Esq. She was born July 15, 1745, and died Dec. 25, 1825.
She was a professor of christianity, and a conscientious observer of its duties.
The years roll on us yet ;- but time shall end,
The Trump shall sound, and God the Judge descend ;
The quick and dead the summons must obey ;
And then the bursting grave shall yield its prey.
This Monument is erected to the Memory of the HON. ELEAZER BROOKS ESQ. who died Nov. 9, 1806, in the 80th year of his age.
He possessed great natural endowments, which he much improved by deep research, and diligent application. He was intrusted with many important offices, both military and political. In the defence of the rights of his Country he distinguished himself in Council and in the Field. As a statesman and Politician, he excelled. He was for 27 years in one or the other of the Branches of the Govern- ment of the Commonwealth. In the latter part of his days he accepted the office of a Deacon in the Church of Christ, declaring it one of the greatest Honours of his life, to be placed in the immediate service of his divine Lord. He discharged his various duties and Employments, with abil- ity, integrity, and success. He lived and died in firm belief of the Holy Scriptures and in constant, humble dependance on the Grace of God revealed in the Gospel of his Son. Reader, oer him who sleeps beneath this sod

The superiour intellectual abilities with which he was endowed recommended him to the respect and notice of his fellow men especially of the more wise and knowing. He was a constant worshipper of God in his family, and very diligent in his attendance on the publick institutions of religion. In his last sickness which tho long and pain- ful was born by him with great patience, he discovered an ardent thirst after communion with God.
