MONTHLY REPORTS.
We designed what we have written of the " Monthly Reports " issued in District No. 11, to encourage other teachers to pursue the same course. We would recommend the teachers to adopt this plan, assured they will derive great benefit therefrom.
JUVENILE DEPARTMENT.
Our young friends perceive we have been writing about them, but not to them. But while we most earnestly desire to interest
14
others in your behalf, we would also seek to encourage you to make greater efforts the coming year. Do you ask-what can we do ? We answer, resolve to do what you can, and to be what it is possible for you to be. The first thing is to obtain an educa- tion. Remember that merely going to the school house, and spending a given number of hours each day of the term, is but a small part of what you have to do. You are to work, and some- times it will be hard work to master your lessons. But don't on this account be discouraged, or think of giving up. Just think, this lesson has been learned, this problem has been solved by others ; shall I give it up and say, I CANT ? No ! I will try un- til I succeed.
Then be very regular and prompt in your attendance. When in school be careful to obey the rules and regulations of your teachers. Seek to do this, and you will find a new interest spring- ing up within you continually, and the work of the school will become a pleasure.
Now as our parting salutation, we say to our juvenile friends, do all you can to help yourselves, and we will give you all the en- couragement, and do all we can to assist you.

DEATHS IN THE ALMSHOUSE THE PAST YEAR.
Jacob Churchill, July 12; Warren Brewster, Aug. 16; Sarah Alden, Sept. 3 ; Bradford Sampson, Dec. 29 ; Ann Churchill, Feb. 10; Samuel Peterson, Feb. 15.
There has been raised the past year on the land connected with the house, crops sufficient to supply the inmates during the sum- mer and autumn ; also, harvested for the benefit of the house, the following amount of produce :
Half ton English hay, 10 bushels corn, 108 bushels potatoes, 17 bushels turnips, 8 busheis carrots, 3 bushels parsnips, 6 bushels beets, 2 1-2 bushels beans, 1 bushel onions.
There have also been some improvements made on the land connected with the house, by setting out fruit trees ; also, by the annexation of the homestead of the late Galen Weston, deeded by his heirs to the town of Duxbury, in consideration of expenses paid by the town for his support.
16
OVERSEERS OF THE POOR.
INVENTORY OF ARTICLES REMAINING IN THE HOUSE AND BARN, FEBRUARY 15, 1865.
1 1-2 barrels beef, 1 barrel pork, 125 lbs. ham, 91 lbs. lard, 425 lbs. dry fish, 24 lbs. fresh beef, 2 3-4 barrels flour, 8 bushels corn, 2 bushels meal, 30 gallons molasses, 158 lbs. sugar, 25 lbs. tea, 6 lbs. butter, 20 lbs. saleratus, 25 gallons vinegar, 1 1-2 barrels soap, 11 lbs. hard soap, 3 pecks salt, 1 lb. tobacco, 1-2 bushels beans, 35 bushels potatoes, 20 bushels small potatoes, 5 bushels turnips, 1 1-2 bushels parsnips, 2 1-2 bushels beets, 4 bushels carrots, 1-2 bushel onions, 1 dozen cabbages, 1 ton coal, 1 3-4 gross matches, 1 cow, 15 fowls, 1-2 ton English hay, 1 1-4 tons salt hay, 1-4 ton corn fodder, 50 lbs. scraps, 3 cords oak wood, 1 3-4 cords pine wood, 5 cords pitch pine wood cut on the alms house lot.
Amount valued at $573 20
Being an excess of the amount Feb. 18, 1864, of $323 20.
The Board of Overseers have received and considered numerous applications for aid out of the house, many of which, as will be seen by the foregoing, have been relieved. The expenses of the house have been larger than was anticipated by the Overseers, on account of the high prices of all the necessaries of life the past year.
The Overseers have found it necessary to have a new furnace in the house, to make it comfortable for the inmates, at a cost of $75 (unpaid). The fences and buildings are in need of repairs, and the Overseers would recommend an appropriation of $300 for repairs and improvements
We think it a duty from us to give the superintendent and wife a recommendation for their straightforwardness in managing the affairs of the establishment, and would respectfully recommend them to our successors in office.
All of which is most respectfully submitted.
