REPORT OF THE SUPT. OF WATER DEPARTMENT

The Water System has supplied all the demands of its patrons during the year, in furnishing a good supply of pure water at a cost of about six and one-third cents per one thousand gallons.

Early in the year a leak was discovered at the State Sanitor- ium, which was repaired by the Institution, and the sum of $60 paid the town for maintaining the leak. There have been fewer leaks than in some former years, and the pumping plant has required only ordinary repairs.

The Water Commissioners have renovated the interior of the building by laying a new floor in the pump room, and painting the walls. making work bench and closet, at an expense of about $35.

Service connections have been made at two places, Miss Sally Bourne, Maple avenue, and John Boyle's store, Main street.

The expected increase in revenue from the State Sanitorium will, in the future, no doubt, help in paying up the notes on water loans as they become due, and put the Water System on a good paying basıs.

Your School Committee would report that the schools of Rut- land have made progress the past year. The schools have been in session thirty-four weeks, (the High School forty weeks as required by law) and your Committee are pleased to state that all bills are paid up to March Ist, and that we have nearly kept within the ap- propriation, having overdrawn but $14.16. and that we have many supplies on hand that will be used the coming year.

In September your Committee received a gift of $10.00 from some person unknown, to be used for the good of the public schools in Rutland. With this fund as a nucleus a paper was started by Master Parmelee Drury, to secure money enough to procure appara- tus for the class in Physice in our High School. The public gener- ously responded, $104.00 was raised. The apparatus has been purchased and is now ready for use ; a balance remains that will be used for any additional apparatus that may be needed in the future.

Your Committee desire to express their thanks to those who have given to this worthy cause, and they wish especially to thank Master Parmelee Drury for his efforts for the good of the Rutland High School.

Respectfully submitted,
