A bequest of the income of $5,000.00 for purchasing invalid chairs, canes, crutches and appar- atus designed to assist in com- forting, easing and curing deserv- ing afflicted residents of the Town, to be administered by the mem- bers of the Board of Public Wel- fare to be known as the Ora Mait- land Kimball Fund.

Art. 34. To see if the town will vote to accept Chapter 35 of the Acts and Resolves passed by the General Court of Massachusetts in the year 1941 and approved February 27, 1941, or to see what action the Town will take in the matter, agreeable to the petition of the Board of Selectmen.

To see if the Town will vote to convey 179.02 acres of land located on the westerly side of the Newburyport Turnpike be- tween Essex and Main Streets, being part of the land known as the Town Infirmary lands, to the K. V. Wolsey Company for the consideration of $1.00, such trans- fer to be subject to restrictions imposed by the Board of Select- men in joint action with the Board of Survey, or to see what action the Town will take in the matter, agreeable to the petition of the Board of Survey.

The meeting was called to order at 8 P. M. There was no quorum until 8:15 when a count of the members showed 158 members to be present.


The following tellers were ap- pointed and qualified :

The reading of the records of the previous meeting was waived.


The following resolution was presented by Mr. Peckham, and adopted at 8:25 P. M .:


Whereas, the present owner of the Old Iron Works House proper- ty finds it necessary to sell the same and


Whereas, his proposed purchaser will not agree not to move this old historical house out of Saugus, and


Whereas, the present owner is desirous of enabling the Town to retain this historical relic, and

to that end is willing to sell the property to the Town for less than he can obtain for it from his pros- pective purchaser, and


Whereas, he is willing to sell it to the Town for the present as- sessed valuation, namely $7,225.00 now therefore


Be it Resolved, that the Board of Selectmen should and are autho- rized to use every effort and legal means at their disposal to so ob- tain the property for the Town for municipal purposes, including the insertion of an article for purchase in a special Town Meeting War- rant.

Whereas, the Town of Saugus, through the representatives here assembled, is cognizant of the im- portance of such an undertaking,


Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that this meeting urge the citizens

Voted: To approve the Renewal by the Treasurer of the Town of Saugus of so much of the Seventy Five Thousand Dollars ($75,000.00) Tax Title Loan, which was origi- nally approved by this Board un- der date of October 11th, 1939, as is outstanding on October 16th, 1941. The rate of interest on the renewal note is to be one percent (1%) payable at maturity.
