EMERSON R. DIZER,

Town Accountant.

203

REPORT OF THE TOWN ACCOUNTANT

East Weymouth, Mass., Jan.1, 1924.

To the Board of Selectmen and Overseers of the Poor:

Gentlemen :-

I submit herewith the .twenty-second annual report of the accounting department showing the financial transactions of the several town departments.

By vote of the town, as in the previous year, the assessment levied for the maintenance of the Norfolk County Tuberculosis Hospital was paid under protest.

A thorough audit of the books of the Tax Collectors show the. balances uncollected as stated in their several reports to be cor- rect. All cash balances have been regularly verified by compar- ison with the books of the Weymouth Trust Company and have al- ways been found correct.

The last outstanding note issued on account of the construc- tion of the Pratt Schoolhouse was paid in 1923 and there is now a sufficient amount in the James Humphrey Schoolhouse Sinking Fund to warrant the discontinuance of the annual appropriation.

Additional loans made during the year of $290,000 reduces the borrowing capacity of the town to $101,116 as of December 31, 1923. The bonds for the High School Addition and the New Town Home were issued as of July 1, 1923, at the rate of 4 1/4 %. It is unfortunate that the litigation which occasioned a delay in the issuance of the High School Addition bonds, will result in an additional cost to the town of thousands of dollars.

The books of the department are open to the inspection of any citizen desiring more detailed information than that appear- ing in this report.

Respectfully,

EMERSON R. DIZER,

Town Accountant.
