Voted: That the Chairman of the Selectmen, Town Counsel and the Superintendent of Streets be and hereby appointed a com --- mittee to consider an amendment to the by-laws of the town, pro- viding for reasonable rules, regulations or conditions governing" the lay-out and acceptance of streets. This Committee shall re --- port at some future meeting, but not later than the next annual. meeting, their report to include for adoption such amendment or" amendments to the by-laws as they deem proper.


Article 3. Voted: That the Town Treasurer with the ap --- proval of the Selectmen be and hereby is authorized to borrow money from time to time in anticipation of the revenue of the fi- nancial year beginning January 1, 1923, and to issue note or" notes therefor payable within one year; any debt or debts incurred .. under this vote to be paid from the revenue of said financial year.

$8,500 for the purpose of publishing the history of the town of Weymouth, this amount to be expended under the direction of the Selectmen, the books when published to be the property of the town, and the proceeds from the sale of such books to be paid into the town treasury.


Article 10. Mr. Edward C. Barker secretary of the Appro- priation Committee moved "That no action be taken under this _article."


Mr. Howard H. Joy moved as a substitute motion "That this meeting direct that the Anniversary Committee co-operating with the Weymouth Historical Society, may use the unexpended bal- ance of $978 as voted at a meeting held on October 21, 1921, for Tercentenary purposes this year." So voted.


Article 11. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $1500 for the maintenance of the Town Survey, provided the sheets are available in time for Assessors use; the money to be expended under the direction of the Selectmen.

Voted: That the salary of the Tax Collector be 8 mills on the dollar of taxes collected, and that the Selectmen be authorized to insure the Tax Collector in the sum of $15,000 hold up insurance. Article 14. Voted: To raise and appropriate $16,328.45 for the payment of interest which may become due this year.

Mr. Henry A. Day moved as a substitute motion "That the sum of $40,000 be raised by loan and appropriated for the con- struction, originally equipping and furnishing of an almshouse for the Town, and that the Treasurer with the approval of the

Selectmen, be and hereby is authorized to borrow said sum of $40,000 for the purposes aforesaid, and to issue bonds or notes of the Town therefor in accordance with the provisions of Section 19 of Chapter 44 of the General Laws, so that the whole of said loan shall be due and payable in not more than twenty (20) years from the date of issue of the first bond or note, or at such earlier date as the Treasurer and Selectmen may determine. Said bonds or notes to bear interest at a rate not to exceed six per cent (6%) per annum.


The result of the vote was 108 in favor and 25 in the negative.

the sum of $60,025 for repairs of highways, townways, bridges, street oiling and for removal of snow. $2,000 of this amount is for the doing of private work which the street department may do, and for which the town is to be reimbursed.


Mr. Thomas J. Kelley moved as an amendment that the sum be $65,025. This amendment was so voted.

Article 57. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $2,500 for the building of permanent sidewalks, same to be ex- pended under the provisions of the Betterment Act.


Article 58. Motion offered by Mr. Edward C. Barker sec- retary of the appropriation committee "That no action be taken under this article."


Mr. Thomas J. Kelley offered the following substitute motion :


"To see if the Town will authorize and instruct its Treasurer with the approval of its Selectmen, to prepare and issue notes or bonds of the Town to an amount not exceeding $16,000, under the provisions of Chapter 44, Section 7, Clause 8, of the General Laws the same to be payable within five years of the date of issue in such amounts annually as may be determined, the pro- ceeds to be devoted to reconstruction of existing townways with Bituminous Macadam construction.


The result of the vote on the substitute motion was as fol- lows: 56 in favor and 36 in the negative. The motion was de- clared not a vote as 2/3 was not in favor.


The motion offered by Mr. Barker was carried.


Voted: To adjourn to meet at the Weymouth High School Assembly Hall on Wednesday evening March 7, at 7:45 o'clock.

Mr. Peers moved that the report of the Selectmen (not read) upon making a public way of the private way between 382 and 386 East Street be accepted, and that the Town raise and appropriate the sum of $300 for the working of the same.


Mr. J. Leonard Bicknell moved "That the subject matter of this article be indefinitely postponed." So voted.

Article 88. Motion offered by J. Leonard Bicknell, chair- man of the appropriation committee "To raise and appropriate the sum of $300 for the alewive fishery and that the Selectmen be a committee of the town to conduct the alewive fishery."


Mr. George E. Cuniff moved as an amendment "That the sum be made $400 instead of $300 and that no fish be sold to parties outside of Weymouth, also that the number of fish placed in the pond for spawning purposes be 100,000 to 150,000.


The amendment was carried.


The original motion as amended was so voted.


Article 89. Voted: That the Town authorize its Selectmen to commence suit for the recovery of any money or property due to it, or to prosecute a bill in equity, or any other proceeding in Court when in their judgment it is expedient or in the inter- ests of the Town to do so.


Article 90. Voted: That the Selectmen be and hereby are authorized to sell any real estate of which the Town is possessed, and for which it has no further use, the sale to be at public auction.


Article 91. Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $3,365 for miscellaneous expenses.

Leonard Bicknell, chairman of the appro- priation committee moved "That the Selectmen be and hereby are authorized to sell the Hose House and lot on which it stands in Ward 4 to the Citizens' Association, Inc., of Precinct 4 for $100, the property to revert to the Town if the Association ceases to exist, the town reserving the right to use the building for elec- tion and other town purposes, the whole conveyance to be sub- ject to the approval of the Town Counsel."


An amendment was offered to insert the words "Without cost to the Town" after the word purposes. This amendment was so voted.

Voted: That the Town Counsel insert in the conveyance such reservations as he thinks necessary to protect the interests of the town.
