Article 2. That all committees which have not rendered a final report be continued until the work under their charge is completed.
Mr. Christensen presented the following report:
March 5, 1951
To the Town Meeting Members:
In accordance with the vote of the Annual Town Meeting of 1950 under Article 89 whereby the Board of Selectmen were authorized to accept with appreciation from the Estate of Mary Fifield King, the sum of five thousand dollars given in memory of Doctors Noah Fifield, George F. Fifield, and W. C. B. Fifield and to recommend to the 1951 Annual Town Meeting a proper use of this fund, we wish to make the following report:
The Board in its deliberations and discussions gave long and careful consideration to the proper disposition of the fund.
Much time was consumed in the determination of a suitable and fit- ting memorial, the best location of same and one which would be practical. Consideration was also given to a memorial which would be of benefit and pleasure to all our citizens at the same time bearing in mind the desires of the donor.
After eliminating a number of suggestions the Board concluded that the installation of a set of Carillonic Bells in the tower of the Town Hall would be most appropriate and in accordance with the bequest inasmuch as no specific stipulation as to the type of memorial was stated.
