ARTICLE 58. (On Petition and By Direction of Selectmen.) To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the moving, relocation, and restoration of the Cowing House, or take any other action in relation thereto.

ARTICLE 59. (On Petition and By Direction of Selectmen.) To see what sum of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for addi- tional and proper lighting facilities on Middle Street from Central Square to the junction of Commercial and Middle, and to instruct the Electric Lighting Committee to increase lighting in this municipal area during 1959, or take any other action in relation thereto.

UNANIMOUSLY VOTED: That the subject matter of this Article be referred to the Electric Lighting Committee.


ARTICLE 60. (On Petition and By Direction of Selectmen.) To see if the Town will vote to instruct the Board of Assessors to submit to any taxpayer owning homes, lands or other properties a notice of increased assessments on such properties prior to the sending of the annual tax bills, or take any other action in relation thereto.


Upon motion duly made by the Appropriation Committee, it was UNANIMOUSLY VOTED: That the Assessors be so instructed.


ARTICLE 61. (On Petition and By Direction of Selectmen.) To see what action the Town will take to direct the Assessors to print pamphlets containing the latest list of owners of real estate, its valuation and loca- tion, said pamphlet to be given free to any Weymouth resident, and, fur- ther, to appropriate sufficient funds for this purpose, or take any action in relation thereto.


Upon motion duly made by the Appropriation Committee, it was SO VOTED: No action.


ARTICLE 62. (On Petition and By Direction of Selectmen). To see what action the Town will take to direct the Selectmen to call a special town meeting before the closing of schools for the purpose of reducing the number of assessors to three as prescribed by statute, or take any other action in relation thereto.


Upon motion duly made by the Appropriation Committee, it was UNANIMOUSLY: No action.


ARTICLE 63. (On Petition and By Direction of Selectmen). To see if the Town will instruct the Laban Pratt Hospital Trustees to seek legal action and authority from the court to permit the use of the present Laban Pratt Hospital Fund in the vicinity of $800,000.00 for the construction of an addition to the South Shore Hospital on land owned or adjacent to that institution, and to be named the "Laban Pratt Wing"; to instruct the Laban Pratt Hospital Trustees to initiate and produce legal and proper agreement for the construction of such a Laban Pratt Hospital Wing and the operation and maintenance of such an addition after completion; to instruct the Laban Pratt Hospital Trustees, separately or jointly with the Trustees of the South Shore Hospital, to determine such funds as may be made available by the Federal Government as a matching contribution to such amounts of the Laban Pratt Fund, as may be used for construction

purposes for the Laban Pratt Hospital Wing; or take any other action in relation thereto that may serve to expedite further hospital facilities sorely needed by the citizens of Weymouth.


MOVED by the Appropriation Committee:


That the subject matter of this Article be referred to the next Town Meeting.


MOVED the following substitute motion by Mr. Fryer of the Board of Selectmen:


That the Moderator appoint a committee of five to make a study of the most urgent interest of building a health center for our Town's people and also study the necessary legal action to be taken to make available the Laban Pratt Fund for this purpose and report back at the next Annual Town Meeting.


Discussion ensued involving several of the Town Meeting members and Town Officials.


Comes now the question on the substiutte motion by Mr. Fryer. Vote was taken and, the Moderator being in doubt, a teller count was ordered. Vote and count were taken and the tellers reported 64 votes in the affir- mative and 62 votes in the negative. The Moderator then declared the substitute motion by Mr. Fryer.


SO VOTED


ARTICLE 64. (By Direction of Selectmen). To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of $300.00 to be expended under the direction of the Board of Selectmen for the purpose of stocking the ponds and inland waters located within the Town limits, with fish and/or liberating game, all in accordance with General Laws (Ter. Ed.) Chapter 10, Section 5, Clause 41, or take any other action in relation thereto.


Upon motion duly made by the Appropriation Committee, it was


UNANIMOUSLY VOTED: That the Town vote to raise and appro- priate $300.00 for the purpose of this Article. $300.00


ARTICLE 65. (On Petition and By Direction of Selectmen). To see what action the Town will take relative to fishing and/or gunning from the shores of the Weymouth Great Pond.

ARTICLE 66. (At Request of the Committee for Housing of Elderly Persons of Low Income and By Direction of Selectmen). To see whether the Town will approve the construction of a new housing project by the Weymouth Housing Authority, namely, a housing project for elderly per- sons, pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 667 of Massachusetts Acts of 1954 and Acts in amendment thereof, or take any other action in re- lation thereto.


MOVED by the Appropriation Committee:

Stuart McIsaac, of Weymouth, an Ameri- can Flag given to his grandfather, the late Waldo Turner in the latter's position as State Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic for the State of Massachusetts; or take any other action in relation thereto.

ARTICLE 69. (On Petition and By Direction of Selectmen). To see if the Town will vote to appoint a committee of eleven to plan and direct a Fourth of July celebration and to raise and appropriate funds for such purpose, or take any other action in relation thereto.

Before the members leave I wish to express my very sincere apprecia- tion to the Town Meeting Members, the Committees, particularly the Appropriation Committee, of the Town. Also I think it wise to now re- member that we have leaving public office as Selectman a man who has served for twenty years and who has been for the last ten years Chairman thereof, and unfortunately is not here to hear this. We are also losing a man who has been in the office of Selectman for six years. I refer, of course, first to Mr. Joseph Crehan and second to Mr. Warren Burrell. (Applause)

PRECINCT SIX


Upon petition of Town Meeting Members of Precinct six of the Town of Weymouth, and the following due notice by Harry Christensen, Town Clerk, the Town Meeting Members of Precinct six held a meeting on Monday evening, May 18, 1959 at 8:00 P.M. in the Town Hall for the purpose of filling a vacancy in the full number of Town Meeting Mem- bers in Precinct six.


The meeting was called to order by the temporary chairman, Harry Christensen, Town Clerk. There were twenty town meeting members present.


Upon motion duly made, seconded and voted Philip T. Jones was chosen Chairman. Upon motion duly made, seconded and voted Henry F. Godin was chosen Clerk.


Two names were submitted for nomination, Ralph R. Allen, 45 Revere Road and John E. Butler, 50 Cedar Street. Upon motion made and seconded it was unanimously voted that the nominations be closed.


The members then proceeded to vote by ballot and following the teller count the results showed John E. Butler to be elected by a majority vote.
