County Tax,

1,300 00

Amount to be raised by taxation

$21,450 00

which will require a rate of $1.98 per $100 of the valuation of 1871.

It may be the wish of the town in raising money for the payment of the expenses of 1872, to make an allowance for the increase of income, arising from the assumption of the Bank and Corporation taxes,, by the State, and their subsequent reimbursement to the town.

The amount received from Bank tax in 1871 was, $814 08

Corporation tax, 488 27

Whole amount,

$1,302 35

37

The income from these sources, will, probably, be about the * same for 1872.

Should the whole amount be deducted from the estimated expenses, the rate of taxation would be reduced to $1,86 nearly.

The good policy of such a course may well be doubted. The surplus derived from these taxes, will, in a few years if no extra expenses are incurred, extinguish the ordinary debt.
