REMARKS UPON ESTIMATE. - We have recommended a special appropriation for the repairs of Prospect street. This street (especially the easterly portion of it) has for some years been in a bad condition, but the amount of money that could be annually spared from the appropriations for high- ways has not warranted more than slight temporary repairs.

5

34

We have also recommended the raising of two thousand dollars by taxation, to defray the expense of new roads.

The town has already authorized the building of a road from Charles street to Mann Hill and the Beach (condition- ally), and the improvement of Highland street, at an esti- mated cost in the aggregate of two thousand one hundred dollars, which will probably be expended the coming year.

As other roads may be laid out and accepted by the town in the course of the year, we think it good policy to raise the money by taxation to pay for those already authorized, rather than by borrowing, to increase the town debt.
