These Articles Will Appear in Town Warrant March 2, 1914


Article 1. 'To choose a moderator to preside over said meeting.


Art. 2. To choose by ballot all necessary town officers for the ensuing year, viz :- Clerk, Treasurer. Three Selectmen, Three Overseers of the Poor, Collec- tor of Taxes, One Assessor, for three years, one mem- ber of the Board of health for three years, two members of the School Committee for three years, three Audit- ors, three members of the Library Committee for three years, one member of the Library Committee for two years (to fill vacancy), one Sinking Fund Commissioner for three years, Tree Warden, Highway Surveyor, and seven Constables.


Art. 3., To vote by ballot "Yes" or "No," in answer to the question: "Shall licenses be granted for the sale of intoxicating liquors in this town?"


Art. 4. To hear the reports of the Auditors of Accounts, Treasurer, Clerk, Selectmen, Library Com- mittee, School Committee, etc., and act thereon.


Art. 5. To raise and appropriate such sums of money as may be necessary to pay town debts and charges for the ensuing year, or act thereon.


Art. 6. To see if the town will vote to authorize the Treasurer with the approval of the Selectmen, to

borrow money in anticipation of the revenue of the cur- rent financial year or act anything thereon.


Art. 7. To see if the Town will petition the Dir- ector of the Bureau of Statistics to cause such an audit to be made of the town accounts as may be necessary to install an accounting system, in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 598 of the Acts of 1910 and amendments thereto.


Art. 8. To see if the town will authorize and direct the Selectmen to appoint a town accountant, in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 624 of the Acts of 1910.


Art. 9. To see if the town will vote to pay the enginemen, or act anything thereon.


Art. 10. To see if the town will vote to fix com- pensation of town officers, laborers and teams, or act anything thereon.


Art. 11. To see if the town will vote an appro- priation for the observance of Memorial Day, or act thereon.


Art. 12. To see if the town will vote an appro- priation to Camp Ponce for the observance of Memo- rial Day, or act thereon.


Art. 13. To see if the town will vote to give the tax collector the same power to collect taxes that the town treasurer has when appointed collector, or act thereon.


Art. 14. To see if the town will vote to allow a discount on taxes paid within a certain period, or charge interest on taxes unpaid after a certain date, or act anything thereon.

To see if the town will vote, in accord- ance with Section 33 of Chapter 102 of the Revised Laws of the Commonwealth, to adopt the following by-law: "The selectmen may license suitable persons to carry on the business of pawnbrokers in the town of Southbridge, Mass., subject to the provisions of sec- tions one hundred and eighty-six to one hundred and eighty-nine of Chapter 102 of the Revised Laws, and may revoke such licenses at pleasure," or act anything thereon.


Art. 24. To hear and act upon the report of the Water Supply committee.


Art. 25. To see if the town will vote to install three (3) luminous arc lights on Hamilton street be- tween Main and Hook streets, raise and appropriate money therefor, or act thereon.


Art. 26. To see if the town will vote to buy a certain parcel of land situated at the junction of Union (or Cross), Crane and River streets, raise and appro- priate money therefor, or act thereon.

To see if the town will vote to repair the gravel sidewalk on the northerly side of South street from the corner of South and West streets to the works of Litchfield Shuttle Co., and to construct a cinder or gravel walk from thence to the Westville bridge raise and appropriate money therefor or act anything thereon.
