REPORT OF SELECTMEN
The Selectmen organized with J. Edouard Demers, Chair- man, J. C. Gabree, Clerk, and Valmore P. Tetreault as the third man.
The Board experienced one of the hardest years ever known, with numerous strike situations and we discharged our duties regarding same according to law.
Re-construction of the Sandersdale Road was started under the direction of the State Department of Public Works and same will be completed in the spring, which we believe is quite an improvement.
After many difficulties we were able to settle the account of the Worcester Street Road construction of 1933, but we maintain that the construction of this road has created the worse hazard that we have within the town limits. The Board of Selectmen have petitioned the Board of Public Works of the State in conjunction with the County Commissioner for the widening of the Central Street bridge under Chapter Ninety. We are also recommending, through an article, a sidewalk to be constructed from Henry Street to the Central Street bridge on the northerly side of the street, in order that the above mentioned hazard be eliminated, as much as possible.
We are pleased to state that all town departments now have offices in our Municipal building. The bringing into the Town Hall of the Town Treasurer's department is one of the most important changes made in the Municipal building.
After due consideration and inspection we have come to the conclusion that the Town of Southbridge has been heating the outside of the Town Hall building as well as the inside, and have recommended to the ERA Administrator a project to repair this building, including the insulation of all windows, which will be a great help in the heating of same.

The Selectmen are recommending that a new heating plant with a cost of approximately Three Thousand Dollars be in- stalled during 1935. The boilers are now approximately forty- five years old and are about to cause trouble at any moment; we hope that this will not happen during the winter months.
We are pleased to state that through the economic methods of the several departments and the transfer of balances not used of certain special accounts it was not necessary to borrow any money for maintenance as in the previous year, and as near as we can learn only a few outstanding bills are in the hands of the several departments.
The Legal department has been very active during the past year. The Selectmen, as well as the various departments, made frequent use of the services of the Town Counsel.
