There have been inspected during the past year 100 stables, 855 cattle. Of these 12 were quarantined and 10 killed and found to contain tuberculosis. Besides the cattle there were 122 hogs, 18 goats and 9 sheep inspected.

In compliance with the requirements I submit the report of the West Bridgewater Fire Department for the year end- ing Dec. 31, 1917, which will include the cost of maintaining, loss of property, and cause of fires as near as can be ascer- tained.

CALL FORCE.


This force consist of twenty-two men, six forest fire wardens, three engineers, twelve men at Central station, ten men at Hose Wagon No. 3 at Manley's.

In performing this service the apparatus has travelled 140 miles. The department has laid 7,500 feet of hose, 1,200 feet of chemical hose. It has also raised 610 feet of ladders and used 600 gallons of chemicals. There are in service about 2,300 feet of 21/2 in. hose and 250 feet of chemical hose. I would recommend the purchase of 500 feet of 21/2 in. hose the coming year.

CALL SYSTEM.


The department has a good call system to all the fire- men's houses. All alarms are sent out from the telephones 4137 Chief, 2463-W Capt. Gibson's.


WIRE DEPARTMENT.


Stock used and work of the department: 500 feet of No. 12 iron wire was strung and 100 feet of insulated copper wire was strung, also three new bells were inserted. The depart- has now about five miles of strung wire and 14 call bells.
