REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES OF THE ROBBINS LIBRARY.
To the Town of Arlington : -
The Trustees of the Robbins Library submit their annual report.
The circulation of books remains about the same, 44,504 for 1907 as against 45,253 for 1906, and 10,918 for the Children's Room as against 10,959 in 1906. But the withdrawal of the Booklovers Library doubtless accounts for the loss.
The average daily attendance in the Children's Room has risen from 19 to 22 ; that of the Reading Room remaining the same-59.
Thirty thousand seven hundred and fifty-three volumes have been distributed from the Central Library and 3,627 single numbers of periodicals as against 2,925 last year.
To make good in part the withdrawal of the Booklovers Library, a certain number of books has been kept at the Arlington Heights Reading Room during the past seven months and has been called for by 195 individuals.
Attention should be called to the excellent reference work done by Miss Baston, from her desk in the Reading Room, whereby the resources of the Library are made available to all who apply for her assistance.
The Library was represented on the first of June in the Centen- nial Celebration by a float containing two fine paintings of the old Adams house, which stood on the corner of the Avenue and Mystic Street. It was while the Library was located here that it became a Free Public Library. The building was opened in the afternoon and three hundred persons, including many guests of the Town, availed themselves of this opportunity to examine the Library.
In August, Miss Louise V. Marsh, who has had charge of the Children's Room since it was opened in 1900, withdrew from the Library after rendering very satisfactory service for fifteen years.
Miss Edith C. Rice was given her position and is well qualified for the work.
In April an assistant was provided each morning. except Sunday in. the Book Room, and on the 8th of October Miss M. K. Leetch be- gan work in the Reading Room for four evenings each week.
A special policeman has been secured for duty in the Library on Sunday afternoons when the attendance is large and outside help is sometimes needed to maintain order.
Exhibitions of photographs, etc., have been given in addition to those hitherto reported
