Article 38. To see if the Town will accept sections twenty-one (21) to twenty-five (25), inclusive, of chapter one hundred and thirty-six (136) of the General Laws, which said sections contain among others, provisions that it shall be lawful in any town which accepts the said

sections, to take part in or witness any athletic outdoor sport or game, except horse racing, automobile racing, boxing or hunting with firearms, on the Lord's day be- tween 2 and 6 P. M., that such sports or games shall take place on such playgrounds, parks or other places as may be designated in a license issued by certain local licensing authorities; that no sport or game shall be permitted in a place, other than a public playground or park, within one thousand feet of any regular place of worship; that the charging of admission fees or the taking of collections or the receiving of remuneration by any person in charge of or participating in any such sport or game shall not be prohibited; and that the license may be revoked; or take any action relating thereto.


Article 39. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of twenty-three thousand twenty (23,020) dollars or any other sum, to be expended under the direction of the Board of Selectmen on Town work for employment of the poor ; determine in what manner the money shall be raised and expended ; or take any action relating thereto.

Article 40. To see if the Town will accept Section 47 of Chapter 31 of the General Laws for all Town employees and thereby place all such employees not already classified under the provisions of Civil Service.

To see if the Town will vote to sell, con- vey, or otherwise dispose of all its right, title, and inter- est in and to all or any portion of a certain lot of land situ- ated on Massachusetts Avenue, formerly Arlingon Ave- nue, in Arlington in the County of Middlesex and Com- monwealth of Massachusetts bounded and described as follows: viz :- Bounded easterly by said Avenue fifty-five

feet, southerly by land of one Wood one hundred and fifty feet; westerly by lands of one Wood and of said Richard- son sixty and forty-five one hundredths feet ; northerly by lands described as lot No. two of the said Richardson one hundred and fifty-eight and forty-six one hundredths feet, containing eight thousand seven hundred and eighty-eight square feet and being Lot No. One on Plan by J. O. Goodwin dated April 1887, recorded in Book of Plans No. 51, Plan No. One in South Middlesex Deeds.


Said parcel is known as G. A. R. Hall and was acquired by the Town in pursuance of a certain Declaration of Trust by Alfred H. Knowles et al, trustees, dated Janu- ary 29, 1894, and recorded with Middlesex South District Deeds, Book 2251, Page 488; or take any action relating thereto.


And you will notify and warn the voters of the Town of Arlington to meet at the times and places herein speci- fied by leaving at every dwelling house in the Town a printed copy of this warrant, and also by posting a copy of the same at the doors of the Town Hall and in a con- spicuous place in each of the fourteen precincts of the Town, seven days at least prior to the time of said meet- ing.


Hereof, fail not, and make due return of this War- rant, with your doings thereon, to the Town Clerk, on or before said day and hour of meeting.

Middlesex County :


By virtue of this warrant I have notified and warned the legal voters of the Town of Arlington to meet at the times and places and for the purposes herein named by causing a printed attested copy of the same to be left at every dwelling house in the Town, and by posting an at- tested copy at the doors of the Town Hall seven days at least before said day of meeting and by posting attested copies in two or more conspicuous places in each voting precinct in the Town. A notice of the time, place and objects of the meeting was published in the local papers.

The polls were declared open in each precinct at seven o'clock in the morning and remained open until eight o'clock in the evening at which time after due notice they were declared closed.

The ballots were counted by the election officers and encased in boxes, which were locked and sealed, and the same were delivered by direction of the Town Clerk to the Police Station where they were to be placed under police guard until after the expiration of the time within which a petition for recount might be filed.


The returns and keys to ballot boxes from each pre- cinct were turned over to the Town Clerk and with the assistance of the Registrars of Voters the returns were canvassed and the result announced.
