CRANE


1. ALLEN CRANE, b. Aug, 1790, in Mass .; d. Lincoln, 3 Mar., 1859; m. Mary Coggshall, who was b. Mass., d. New London, Wis. Ebenezar Hubbard built the sawmill on Cold Stream, Trans Alpine, in about 1834, and Allen Crane became associated with him, and later his two sons, Francis and Samuel, became connected with the mill. This was called "Crane's Mill" for many years.

Treat Staples of Swanville, Me. He came from Monroe to Lincoln in 1847, and was the first settler on the Ripley place. They lived there until 1858, when he sold out to a Mr. Bradford and he sold to James Cummings, who had been living over by the mill on Cold Stream Lake. Mr. Crowell bought a house on High St., which was afterwards known as the Messer house. From this time he became a butcher and meat dealer.

Neal, step-sister of Johnson Neal. She. d. 13 Jan., 1873. He oper- ated a Blacksmith shop in Trans Alpine, near the Phinney place. Afterwards, he moved down to the Narrows with his son, Charles. Children :

4. 3-Charles Freeman, b. 16 Dec., 1842, in Burlington; d. in Lincoln Village, in the house on upper Main Street which he built. He m., 15 Feb., 1868, Abbie Jane Moulton, dau. of Stephen Coffin and Margarette Jane (Lowe) Moulton. He was a carpenter and builder. They lived in a house, probably built by him, a short distance above the Narrows for many years. Later they moved to the house which he built on upper Main Street and he died there. Abbie Jane went to live with her niece, Edna Kneeland, on High Street, and she d. in a Bangor hos- pital.
