1. WILLIAM DOBLE, a Local Preacher and one of the earliest set- tlers of Trans Alpine, was probably a brother of the above Francis Doble. He m., 1st, Hannah ... , who was b. in 1807; d. 24 Apr., 1834, at the age of 27. She was buried in the Trans Alpine Ceme- tery. He m., 2nd, Mary Jane Lombard, dau. of Hezekiah and Patience Lombard, 6 Jan., 1842. She was b. 13 June, 1824. We have no record of their family, but they moved from House No. 5, where they settled, over to the Enfield Road.

1. SAMUEL Dow, one of the first settlers in Trans Alpine, came here before 1825 and settled the old Phinney place, and probably built the buildings, for he lived there about 30 years. EDWARDS
1. AZARIAH EDWARDS, son of Azariah and Nabby (Smith) Ed- wards, was born in Manchester, Mass., 20 Oct., 1802. His ancestor in the 6th generation, Rice Edwards, and his wife, Joan, came probably from South Wales, Great Britain, in 1642, and settled in Salem, Mass. Mr. Edwards came to Lincoln in 1825, and started clearing the farm in Trans Alpine which still remains in the family. He m. 13 Feb., 1831, Catherine, dau. of Daniel and Elizabeth (Hamblen) Mann of Limington, Me. She was b. in Portland, Me., 19 Apr., 1809; d. in Lincoln, 16, June, 1870. Mr. Edwards d. in Lincoln, 21 July, 1870. He was a successful farmer and a Justice of the Peace and held sev- eral Town offices. She wrote several small books for Sunday Schools. They were active Methodists. Mrs. Edwards' mother, Elizabeth Mann, made her home with them after the death of her husband, and died there, 12 Mar., 1851, aged 74 years, and was buried in their lot at the Lincoln Cemetery. Through her mother's family, the Hamblens, Mrs. Edwards was a descendant in the 6th generation, from John Howland and Elizabeth (Tilley) Howland, of the Mayflower.

NOTE : Mrs. Rebecca Foster Folsom, ni., for her 2nd husband, Daniel Clay of Trans Alpine, and came there with her young son, Albert, in about the year 1888. She lived there until after the death of her husband. He d. Feb. 28, 1906. She sold the farm to H. E. Littlefield, and they moved to South Orrington, where they lived a short time, then moved to Skow- hegan in 1908.
FROST
1. WINTHROP FROST, a Local Preacher, was one of the first set- tlers of Trans Alpine. He m. Martha They had eight children, but we know of only two.

2. 1-Lucy, b. 26 Aug., 1816; d. 16 Nov., 1867; m. Andrew Edwards. He was b. 21 Feb., 1807; d. 12 Mar., 1857. (See Edwards Family.)
3. 2-Moses, b. 1815; d. 10 July, 1843 at the age of 28. He was buried in the Trans Alpine Cemetery. He served in the Aroostook War, and he had the distinction of being buried under arms.

GOWEN
1. JOSEPH GOWEN, came to Trans Alpine from Montville, Me. He was a Local Preacher. His wife, Ruth, died 9 Oct., 1843, at the age of 65 years. She was buried in the Trans Alpine Cemetery; her stone still stands there.

HAMMOND
1. CAPT. BENJAMIN HAMMOND, was the 13th settler in New Glou- cester. He came there from North Yarmouth, Me., where he was b. 8 Jan., 1735. He and his wife, Sarah (Cragie) with other settlers, made the "Block House" their home during a part of the Indian hos- tilities. He afterwards built a log house on the top of Harris Hill, in which the family lived for several years. In the War of the Revo- lution he rose to the rank of Captain. He died at Ticonderoga from disease contracted in the service. His widow died in her 97th year. They had seven children. Benjamin, Jr., the oldest, b. 13 July, 1760; m. Barbara Smith, dau. of Josiah and Esther Smith of Gloucester, Mass. They settled in Paris. He d. at South Paris, 28 Feb., 1838. She d. 1843. They had eight children. Benjamin, 3rd, the 3rd child, b. in Paris, Me., 12 Sept., 1788; d. in Lincoln, 24 Oct., 1870; m. 17 Mar., 1814, Ruth, dau. of James and Althea (Poole) Hersey of Sum- ner, Me.

HANSCOM
IRA HANSCOM, b. 14 Nov., 1874, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Han- scom of Carroll; m. Leona J. Webster, b. 1 Jan., 1881, dau. of Mr. and Mrs. Benj. Webster of Lakeville, Me. They came to Trans Alpine in 1904 and bought the Rounds place from Nathan Cole, and the Thomp- son farm from Alex Thompson. He sold out in the spring of 1912 to Ard Edwards, and moved to Lacy, Washington. He returned to Lin- coln in the fall of 1914, and bought the Brun Taylor farm. He built the house where he now resides in 1920. They have one son, Pitt, b. 24 June, 1902. He is manager of the Gas & Electric Service Co., Lincoln.
