The truant officer in his enumeration of the children of each sex between the ages of five and sixteen, belonging in this high school district, made to us in April 1896 reports, 55 females and 45 males, making 100. The whole number that attended school as reported by the teachers is 96 ; 7 of this number were tuition scholars that belong outside of the district, but we have schooled in Grafton 7 children of school age that were returned by the of- ficer that are not reported by the teachers. These 7 children had the benefit of ninety school days at an expense of thirty-one dol- lars thirty-four cents, which has been paid to the Grafton school district. It appears from the Grafton register that Flora B. Lashua, Mary Lashua, Burt Lashua, and Gilbert Lashua attended school every day and had no tardy marks against their names and are by law entitled to be placed on the roll of honor and we make this mention because they are entitled to it but could not be re- ported by our teachers. The school board are of the opinion that the scholars have during the year made great progress. There is no reason why this school should not be as good as any high school in the state, and it is the duty of the parents and scholars to bring it up to that standard.

Respectfully submitted, GEO. W. MURRAY, FRANK D. CURRIER, School Board.
