REPORT OF THE LIBRARIAN TO THE TRUSTEES OF THE
Lisbon Public Library
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN :
According to the custom prevailing in library management at the present time we have removed from the shelves 381 "dead" or worn out books, leaving 5,318 books in active circu- lation.
The accessions this year have been 114 by purchase, 2 by gift, 2 by rebound magazines, also 12 from the state and 1 from the government. Eighty-three books and one magazine have been rebound, and 76 new cards have been issued.
The list of periodicals, including the gifts, for the reading room and for circulation is as follows :
A. L. A. Booklist, American Magazine, Arts and Decora- tion, Atlantic, Bookman, Century, Dearborn Independent, Granite Monthly, Independent, Illustrated Review, Ladies' Home Journal, National Geographic Magazine, Our Dumb Animals, Outlook, Popular Mechanics, Review of Reviews, St. Nicholas, Woman's Home Companion, World's Crisis, Zion's Herald.
Arts and Decorations magazine was substituted for Every- body's, and is a distinct addition to the list.
Revolutions Rolls, Vol. 30, has been received from the state.
Artemas Ward, the First Commander-in-Chief of the Amer- ican Revolution, is the gift of the New England Historical Genealogical Society.
28
Simon Bolivar is also a gift.
The charging system is in process of being changed to the book pocket system. A new card catalog case has been pur- chased, and to the author and title a complete dictionary cata- log of all the books is soon to be written. It may be of interest to patrons of the library to be reminded that desired books, not in the library, can be borrowed from the State library by payment of the postage. Application should be made to the librarian.
Non-residents of Lisbon can have the privileges of the library by the payment of 50 cents per year.
Mrs. Mildred Clough has very ably filled the position of assistant librarian, and is of invaluable aid to the students in their outside reading.

The library has completed another year of service and with few incidents of special note.
Gifts of various kinds have been contributed during the year that not only brings much pleasure to the librarian but to all that enjoy the hospitality of our little building.
It is with much pleasure that I can report that Mrs. Rich- ardson, who has been very iil for so long, is recovering rapidly at her winter home in California, and plans to be back with us in the early summer.
I would express my gratitude to the board of trustees for all help in all matters pertaining to the interests of the library the past year.
Respectfully submitted,
JERUSHA ELIZABETH PARKER, Librarian. Feb. 16, 1922.
