REPORT OF OVERSEER OF POOR.
TO THE SELECTMEN:
By the following summary of the expenses, it will be readily seen what the net cost has been for the year: Total cost of town poor $1,375 89
Received from county
$559 50 144 00
Due from county
--- $703 50
$ 672 39
Net cost to town
last year
494 20
Increase $178 19
This increase is accounted for as follows: N. G. Stick- ney, having become more feeble and requiring greater care, costs now $6.00 per week, instead of $4.50; S. S. McDonald's family being wholly supported this year, instead of only par- tially last year; this also applies to Mrs. Wm. P. Horn, last year the bill being only $7.94 as against $68.65 this; then Mr. Wheelock's sickness and death cost a little more than usual; and Jane Boutwell's expense, through sickness, is considerably more than the allowance from the county.
At the present time there are only three persons, viz : Mrs. Horn and S. S. McDonald and wife, wholly supported by the town. All the others who are reckoned as town are really county charges, and remain here only through the sufferage of the town, instead of being sent to the county almshouse. For such the county allows us $1.50 per week for each person, towards their expenses, the balance being paid by the town. This arrangement has cost us the year past $370.14. In my opinion this is money well expended, and I doubt not is thoroughly appreciated by the recipients.
The totals are $1,256.39 less than last year, which is in-

dicative of a better state of affairs, and quite a saving in the town and county expenses.
As last year, the town bills have all been paid up to date. The financial statement is as follows :

NOTE .- Last year Mrs. Boutwell had overdrawn her account $39.10 more than the $1.50 per week allowed by the county. This year her daughter's account is included in the above up to October, when Mrs. Boutwell, through the sale of her property, became self-supporting. This explains why more has been received from the county than ex- pended.
