REPORT OF POLICE COURT.
LANCASTER, Feb. 24, 1899. To the Selectmen of the town of Lancaster:
Gentlemen: I have the honor to submit the following re- port of the Police Court of Lancaster, for the year ending Feb. 15, 1899:
The entire receipts of the court for the year are some- thing less than enough to pay the stated salary of the justice. However, in accordance with my previous action, I claim nothing from the town on account of the deficit. I think the small amount earned by this Court speaks well for the morals of the town, as I am sure that all the police regulations have been reasonably enforced.
WM. H. SHURTLEFF,
Justice Police Court of Lancaster.

Respectfully submitted,
J. E. MCINTIRE, Treasurer.
Examined the above account and found it correctly cast and properly vouched.
W. C. SPAULDING, C. E. KING,
Auditors.
The school board considered it necessary to open a school in the fall at the Mount Prospect school house (foriner- ly No. 8), and fourteen scholars were enrolled at both the fall and winter terms. In consequence of this additional ex- pense, and our limited finances, we felt obliged to cut the winter schools short. In No. 10 the winter terin was stopped in consequence of the severe sickness of the teacher and several scholars. It is our aim to give the scholars attending the small schools the same number of weeks of schooling that is afforded in the largest schools, and if, by any unavoidable cause they are cut short in one term, we try to make it up in the next.
Our schools have been quite satisfactory during the past year, and we are pleased to notice in some neighborhoods an increasing interest among parents in school matters which, we hope, will not be abated.
Respectfully submitted,
J. S. PEAVEY, School Board
J. E. MCINTIRE, of the
G. A. MARSHALL, ) Town District.
