Abstract of Business Transacted at the Annual Town Meeting March 11, 1919
Officers elected: Town Clerk, John G. Townsend; first select- man, William F. Coolidge; second selectman, Peter E. Hogan; third selectman, Edward C. Boynton; town treasurer, John G. Townsend; Overseer of poor, George I. Nute; water commis- sioner for three years, George J. Cournoyer; chief engineer fire department, Lewis W. Davis; three highway agents, Wilbur E. Webster, James H. Fitzgerald and George J. Cournoyer; audi- tors, George A. Adams, Russell B. Henchman and Arthur M. Hatch; tax collector, Samuel H. Mower; trustee of trust funds for three years, Will J. Mower; commissioner of Humiston Field for three years, Louis F. Meyers; voted that the remaining officers be appointed by the selectmen.
Voted to accept and adopt the reports as printed, with the exception of the selectmen's estimate of appropriations.
Voted to make the State tax $7000.00, and the County tax $5000.00 in the selectmen's estimate of appropriations.
Voted to accept and adopt the balance of the selectmen's estimate as printed.
Voted to pass over Art. 4 (Liquor Agent).
Voted that the selectmen be instructed to borrow such sums of money as may be necessary in anticipation of taxes.
Voted that the selectmen be instructed to apply for state aid for permanent highways and raise and appropriate $704.00 in addition to the amount in the selectmen's estimate for the same purpose,

Voted to raise and appropriate $600.00 to aid in the support of a District nurse.
Voted that we raise and appropriate $500.00 for laying dust in the streets to be in charge of the selectmen.
Voted to raise and appropriate $150.00 for the Humiston Field.
Voted to raise and appropriate $600.00 to put in a tile drain on Main St., beginning at the junction of School and Main Streets, to take care of the surface water and that the location be fixed and the work done under direction of the selectmen.
Voted Unanimously, That,
Whereas, Bugler John Humiston, Company B, Machine Gun Battalion, 103rd Regiment, 26th Division, was the only son of Jaffrey to lose his life in action in the world war, recently brought to a close, and
Whereas, Franklin G. Humiston gave twenty-six years of his life in loving ministry to the sick of Jaffrey and twelve years in the service of its youth as a member of its School Board, be it
Resolved, That the recreation ground heretofore known as the "Warren Ground" be hereafter called "Humiston Field" in respect to their memory: and be it further
Resolved, That the Commissioners of Recreation Park be authorized and instructed to procure and place in position on Humiston Field a suitable tablet to remind posterity of the services of these noble men; and be it further
Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be transmitted by the Town Clerk to the widow and mother, Mrs. Carrie R. Humiston.
Voted unanimously, That,
Whereas, Roy S. Ellison, Hermon C. Charlonne and George L. Stratton lost their lives in the service of their country, therefore be it resolved, that in recognition of their sacrifice the town of Jaffrey instruct the Selectmen to rename three streets in homor of these men.

Voted to raise and appropriate $25.00 to repair the watering tub at Jaffrey Center.
Voted to raise and appropriate $300.00 for repair of coal ash sidewalks.
Voted that the town accept the sum of $100.00 from the Estate of Edward B. Crowe, the same to be placed in trust, in the Cemetery fund, and the town assume the care of the Crowe lot in the Catholic Cemetery at East Jaffrey.
Voted that the matter of a bridge near the "Carey crossing" so-called, be left in the hands of the selectmen to investigate and report their findings at some future town meeting.
Voted, That, the town raise and appropriate $594.80 in addi- tion to the amount of $2500.00, already raised, for highway trunk lines, in order to receive the State Federal money.
Voted to adjourn.

Abstract of Business Transacted at a Special Town Meeting
Aug. 14, 1919
Voted that the privilege of the floor be given to all present, who are not voters.
Mr. Pope Yeatman read a statement of what in his opinion should be done to permanently improve the turnpike road from Jaffrey Center to the Troy line, and stated that if the town would spend $2000.00 now, he would give $1000.00 more, all to be ex- pended in making permanent inprovements on said road as far as the money would go.
Voted, That, the selectmen be authorized to spend Two Thousand Dollars on permanent road improvement on the Keene turnpike from Jaffrey Center to the Troy line, and accept the offer of Mr. Pope Yeatman to give to the town One Thou- sand Dollars for the same purpose and to spend said $1000.00 also on the improvement of said road.
Voted that the town extend a vote of thanks to Mr Pope Yeatman for his assistance in this matter.
Voted to adjourn.
