REPORT OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES
We have received during the year $30.96 from enter- tainments given for the benefit of the Library. At the request of the children, the money from their play was taken to buy books for them. And during the year the demand for children's books has been steadily growing, much to our satisfaction. We have now $12 worth that. will soon be ready for use.
Our Librarian is very glad to help the children with the selection of their books, and takes great pains with. them.

SPRING TERM, 1916
To the Piermont School Board:
There were nine schools maintained in town for the. last term of the school year 1916.
Twenty-eight visits were made to the various schools. during the term. With few exceptions I found the teach- ers and pupils interested and zealous in their work, conse- quently good results were attained.
In six of the schools, nature study of birds and flow- ers, was made very interesting to the pupils, by the teachers.
The attendance in nearly all the schools was excep- tionally good. Nine pupils in town had neither absent nor tardy marks for the year.
The largest number of pupils promoted in any grade" was fourteen from the first. The work accomplished by all the first grade pupils in town is worthy of commendation.
Fifteen pupils, nine from the Village and six from the other schools, completed the work required by the State Course of Study. This was the largest class ever graduat- ed in town.
Permit me to thank the Board, teachers, and pupils for the hearty cooperation I received in my work.
MARTHA L. CLARK, Supt. for 3d term of 1916.
SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Having been appointed superintendent of your schools September 1st, 1916, allow me to present the following report:
Nine schools have been in session in different parts of the town. 101 pupils have been enrolled as follows:
23
Village Grammar,
17
Village Intermediate,
13
Village Primary,
15
Brook Road,
14
No. 1,
12
Back Road,
9
Turn Pike,
9
Clay Hollow,
8
East Piermont,
4
total 101
Five of last years graduating class are pursuing high school studies, two studying latin and three bookeeping.
Schools were in session fifteen weeks for the fall term. with the exception of East Piermont and Turnpike schools. Owing to the distance the pupils were obliged to go, caus- ing increased absences as the weather grew colder, it was thought advisable to close the former with a twelve weeks term. The Turnpike school was continued for eighteen weeks and has not been in session this winter.
It was planned to have a winter term of ten weeks which will necessitate their being in session three weeks af- ter this report goes to press, so a complete report of the winter schools cannot be given.
A school has been opened on the Back Road, as an in- crease in the number of children in that locality seemed to to make it more convenient than carrying to the village, as has been done for several years past.
The school on the River Road has been discontinued, as only two pupils were within the limits of the school. One of these attends the village school, the other receives instruction at home.
Five of our teachers are teaching their first schools, only one being a resident of this town.
The attendance of some of the schools was somewhat disturbed at the opening, as a result of the vaccination of the children, which was not attended to during vacation.
I made thirty-five visits to the schools during the fall term, visiting each four times, with the exception of East .. Piermont. This being the seventh week of the winter term, I have visited them twice each.
Most of the pubils are doing good work-some very

good-and still there are others, who with a little more in- terest and energy might do better. During my visits I have asked practical questions, and have advised teachers to make their teaching practical.
I wish the parents might show their interest (I do not "doubt but they are interested) in the work of the schools by visiting them. I think there are less than six names of parents in visitor's columns, except when some special pro- gram had been prepared. We are are always glad to have you come then, and would be fully as pleased to see you in the every day working of the schools. I know it is an easy matter to put off "visiting school," but if parents realized how much it meant to teachers and pupils, they would make an extra effort to be there often, as a support and stimulus to both.
Respectfully submitted,
JENNIE C. ANDROSS, Superintendent.
