1. THOMAS MOULTON, b. in England, was in Newbury, Mass., 1637. The following year he settled in Hampton, N. H., and is the common ancestor of a numerous family. The name of his wife was Martha.
2. JOIN MOULTON, son of Thomas 1, b. in England, with wife Anne came to New England, 1637, probably in company with his father. He settled in Hampton, N. H., and was the first deputy or representative from that town to the General Court. Ile d. 1649 or 1650. His widow d. April 12, 1668.

1. FRANCIS NURSE, b. in England, Jan. 18, 1618, was one of the early settlers of Salem, Mass. He m. Aug. 24, 1644, Rebecca Towne, b. in Yarmouth, England, Feb. 16, 1621, dau. of William and Jane (Blessing) Towne. He was frequently selected as an arbitrator to settle disputes or adjust conflicting claims. In 1678 he purchased and removed to the Bishop farm at Salem Village. Here a venerable man and his aged and respected wife were living when the witchcraft delusion for a season

conquered wisdom and stifled justice. The story is well known. Rebecca Nurse was cruelly hanged as a witch July 19, 1692, and ten- derly buried upon the homestead by her husband and children. He d. Nov. 22, 1695.

He removed to Harvard, Mass., about 1735. His wife d. in Harvard, May 29, 1739. He m. second, in Harvard, May 13, 1740, Hannah (Rogers) Atherton, widow of Joseph Atherton of Harvard. He removed to Rutland, Mass., and in 1747 was a committee to petition the General Court to fortify the town. He d. Jan. 6, 1761. She d. Dec. 9, 1763.
4. BENJAMIN NURSE, son of Benjamin 3, b. in Reading, Mass., Dec. 9, 1716, removed with his father about 1740 to Rutland, Mass. He m. Sept. 1, 1740, Martha Marble of Petersham, Mass., b. Jan. 29, 1716. In 1772 he removed from Rutland to Packersfield, now Nelson, and is named in the records of the settlement of that town. In 1776 he and his son Benjamin signed the Association Test with the other patriots of Packersfield. To Benjamin Nurse is credited three enlistments during the Revolution. On account of the age of the father, it is presumed that the son, Benjamin, performed the greater part of the service. Two of the three terms of service include in part the same time which awards one enlistment at least to the father. He removed, 1786, to this town, where he d., June 20, 1806. His widow, Martha, d. July 5, 1807.

Isaac Stevens was the younger brother and companion in captivity of Phineas Stevens. He m. April 11, 1743, Mercy Hubbard, dau. of Capt. John Hubbard. She d. Aug. 27, 1746, and he m. second, Abigail Parling. Benjamin Nurse settled in Packersfield with his father and brothers,
in 1772. Rev. soldier. He removed to this town 1806, and after 1820 he had a home with his son Phinehas in Keene. He d. in Keene, April 26, 1841. She d. April 28, 1841. Both were buried the same day.
