After that time it frequently appears until, together with his wife Patience, he signs at the marriage of their son, Thomas Woolley, Jr., and Rachel White, Oct. 15, 1746.

No Thomas is mentioned in the will of Jonathan as one of his sons, and it looks as though, except for the matter of the dates of license and of birth, these twins were the sons of Thomas and Hannah (Woolley) Borden, and named, one after the two grand-fathers, Thomas Woolley and Thomas Borden, the other after his paternal uncle, Amos Borden.

Mortgage given by "James Woolley and William his son, with their wives, Catharine and Charity," to Peter Parker, on one hundred acres of land, "in Poplar [S] Wompt, beginning at the Southwest corner of Thomas Potter's old Paten line, thence North according to Paten to road that leads through said tract, Easterly and Northerly along said road to William Woolley's line given him by his grandfather John

1776. The Commissioners of the Loan Office of Monmouth Co., gave a mortgage to Simeon Badcock, on thirty acres of land, in Shrewsbury, "conveyed to him by deed from Thomas Woolley and Elizabeth, his wife, Mch. 26, 1762." This was bounded in part by Poplar Swamp Brook, by James and William Woolley, and by Thomas Woolley. 1785, Mch. 10. James Woolley and Catharine, his wife, and William Woolley, their son, and Charity, his wife, gave a deed to Deborah Leonard, the widow of John Leonard.


Mr. Edwin Woolley, of Poplar, has in his possession a release from Peter Parker to James Woolley, for ten pounds, dated in 1787, the boundaries of the land being the same as are given in the above mortgage of May 1, 1773.


1791, Dec. 21. John Woolley, of Shrewsbury, yeoman, deeds to Deborah Leonard, of Shrewsbury, widow, twelve acres of land, at Poplar Swamp, which, with more, had been conveyed to the said John, Jan. 3, 1787, by his father and mother, James Woolley and Catharine.

Benjamin Woolley, yeoman, of Shrewsbury, quit claims to James, and William Woolley, the son of James, yeomen, all his right in a tract of land, "in con- sideration for a certain triangle of land lying to the Northwards of Potter's line, being a gore of land exchanged by my father with Willaim Woolley."

53 BENJAMIN WOOLLEY, son of John Woolley, 23, born 1718; died May 23, 1798; married, first, by license dated Apr. 2, 1750, Catharine Husbands, William Lewes, surety; born 1720; died Nov. 18, 1784; second, Oct. 5, 1789, Hannah, daughter of Ger- shom and Sarah (Gardner) Bills, and widow of William Jackson, Jr.


Possibly they are buried in the Friends' Burying ground at Shrewsbury. But one has to be careful as regards any positive statement thereto, on account of the unauthor- ized action of a loyal descendant of the family, himself bearing the name of Woolley, and being one of the few living members of the Meeting. He saw the distressing and objectionable way in which the Burying ground had been allowed to stand, and, obtain- ing funds for the purpose, had it put in proper order, and granite stones erected as marks of respect to his ancestors, viz .:
