"The New Jersey Regiment."


This regiment-designated the Fifteenth Infantry, but generally known as " The New Jersey Regiment " -- was organized under the acta of Congress approved January 11 and June 26, 1812, to be echeted for the term of five years unless sooner discharged. The regiment was officered and recruited almost entirely from New Jersey. It continued in service until the close of the war, at which time under the provisions of an act of Congress approved March 3, 1815 -- which directed the reduction of the army to a pesce establishment-the regiment was discontinued, and consolidated May 17, 1815, with the Regiment of Light Artillery, and the oficers and enlisted men who did not wish to continue in the service were honorably discharged June 15, 1815. Those officers who did remain in the service were assigned to retained regiments, and the enlisted men were transferred to the Regiment of Light Artillery to serve the unexpired term of their enlistment. During the period of its service the regiment was stationed along the frontiers of the several Northern and Western States and Territories, In 1812 the regiment was attached to the brigade commanded by Brigadier-General Joseph Bloomfield, United States Army ; in 1813 it was attached to the brigade commanded by Brigadier-General Jacob Brown, United States Army ; in 1914 it was attached to the br.gade commande i by Brigadier-General Alexander Macomb, United States Army. The regiment participated in the Canada campaign and took part in the battle of La Colle River, Lower Canada, October, 1812; also in the battle and capture of York, Upper Canada, April 27, 1813; the battle and capture of Fort George, Canada, May 27, 1813; the battle at French's Creek. N. Y., November 1 and 2, 1813; the siege, battle and capture of Plattsborg, N Y., Sep- tember 6 to 11, 1514; the battle and sortie from Fort Erie, Canada, September 17, 1814; and the battle of Cook's Mills, Canada, October 19, 1814.
