PUBLISHERS NOTICES.
The People's Store, DEFOREST WELD, Manager, 35 Main St., Jamestown, N. Y., is without doubt, one of the largest and most enterprising Dry Goods estab- lishments west of Buffalo, in the State. This House was established at Jameg- town, N. Y., about three years ago, by A. Hazeltine, Jr., who secured for its man- agement, Mr. DeForest Weld, an old and experienced merchant, well known to hundreds of people throughout Chautau- qua and adjoining counties, as one of the most thorough. go-a-head merchants ever known to the Dry Goods trade throughout this section of the country. From the outset, the People's Store, by reason of its connections in the Eastern Markets. was able to place before the people all styles and qualities of Dry Goods and Carpets at a large per-centage less than the same grades were sold by other dealers; which fact, as a matter of course, was soon ascertained by consumers all over the country ; and the future success of the institution was soon foretold by the immense crowds of purchasers who daily thronged the spacious salesrooms. Another popular feature of this House is, thet all the various articles on sale repre- sent the newest and most desirable styles to be found in the wholesale market. This arises from the fact that Mr. Hazel- tine keeps a buyer in New York the year around, who is always on the watch. not only for Bargains, but for the "Latest Things Out." This gives the stock a fresh appearance entirely unusual with stocks in most dry goods stores at this distance from the market. To consumers of Dry Goods we would say that you should not fail to go to the People's Store anl examine the goods and prices before purchasing elsewhere, and compare the priees there current with those demanded by other dealers for like qualities and styles of goods throughout this or ad- joining counties. For further particulars read the advertisement on the last page and cover of the Directory.
Thomas & Son, Carpenters and Builders, at Dunkirk. publish an illus- trated vaid on page 236, in which is repre- sented a stone house, erected evidently in the "good old times" we read about. At the present time builders seek to vary the styles of their buildings as much as posil le, consistent with convenience and good taste, for & judicious contrast is Pleasing to the eye. This firm are com- porteut to undertake the erection of any class of buildings required.
Mrs. Harriet Whicher, manu- facturer and dealer in Human Hair Goods, at Jamestown, understands her business to perfection. Ladies generally ar ; rond of their hair, especially if it is abundant and iong. The lady represent. ed on page ws, it seems, was photograph- e! while looking out of the window, but she was so well pleased with the appear- Alve of kor "back hair" that she re- tained the picture. It looks well but it 1
ist thing to what Mrs. Whicher can do.
Wmn. F. Spragne, dealer in Hard ware, Stoves &c., at Jainestown, is suc cessor to the old firm of "Tew & Sprague." The House has been estab- lished here for forty-eight years, and by fair and square dealing has well earned the honorable reputation it holds among the people of Chautauqua. Mr. Sprague buys in very large quantities, thereby saving for the benefit of his customers quite a margin of profits. His Stove trade is his " pet," and he is never satis- fied until he secures the best the market affords. Just now he is introducing the " New American" for 1873, which is said to be the most perfect Cooking Stove in the world. His Parlor Stores are also from the most celebrated manufactories of Albany and Troy, the leading Stove maarts of the world. By having his Stoves shipped to him direct, by the car- load, he again saves an item in freight, so that it seems that in several ways Mr. Sprague is enabled to offer superior in- ducements to buyers. Mechanics in the various trades can here procure tools and all supplies that can be found in any hardware store. Mr. Sprague says "Call and see me and you shall be convinced." Remember, when you desire to buy a new Cooking Store, that the best is always the cheapest. They give better satisfar- tion, are more reliable and use less fuel, than cheap and roughly-made stoves. and then a first-class new Stove adds relish to the food cooked upon it, besides the commendations and praises of the neighboring housewives in behalf of the new Stove, is worth more than the extra amount it costs over the common kind. Mr. Sprague's advertisement may be found inside the front cover.

Patrons of a paper can aid the publisher Fery materially in the production of a first-class country newspaper. Short items and a good many of them are the most beneficial. The Chautauqua Farmer, a well edited and a widely circulated journal, devoted to the interests of the farm and fireside, is published weekly by Parker & Hendricks. at Forestville. It is not often that a paper of this kind suc- ceeds in a village like Forestville : but the proprietors are men of stamina, who would make success anywhere. They like their business, and their subscribers like the paper, and business men certainly must be pleased, for its circulation is so large that advertisements in it must pay largely. C. E. & \. S. Paris, General Furniture Dealers and Undertakers, at Jamestown, occupy two spacious stores on opposite sides of Main St. They aim to stand at the head in their particular branch of business, and judging from the masses of people who daily throng their wareruns, we should judge that their claims are well earned. They supply Church, Store, School or Office Furniture. and they make a specialty of doing their "}el best" when called upon to furnish a Hotel or a Private House. In short, they are prepared for all comers, with fashionable goods, suited to the times and purposes of customers. Hoyt Brothers, dealers in Dry Goods, Carpets, Clothing &c., at James- town, deserves more than a passing notice. The business was begun here in the spring of 1569. by Hoyt & Fox. In Jan. 1571 Mr. Fox retired, and Joel I. Hoyt, & gentleman who has for many years been well and favorably known throughout Chautauqua and Cattaragus counties, as a prominent butter buyer, became partner with his brother, Peter H. Since then the business of the firm has steadily increased, until it may now be called one of the "solid concerns " of the County. The store was built and fitted on purpose for the Dry Goods trade, the entire three floors, each 120 by 40 feet in area, and basement, being occupied by the firm. On the main floor, to the left as you enter from the street. is to be found the Dry Goods Department, including ready-made suits for ladies. and on the right is the Ready-Made Clothing Depart- ment and Gents' Furnishing Goods Department: near the center, on the right side. is located the Office, which is fitted for the accommodation of the pro- prietors. the book-keeper. cashier and others with whom they have business. In rear of the office is stored huge piles of Sheetings. Tickings and miscellaneous articles. By an easy flight of stairs we ascend to the second floor, on which is located the Cloth. Merchant Tailoring and Cutting Departments. Here also is a large lot of Clothing in stock, Paper Hangings. Carpets xe.
