Arthur Callaghan, Carriage and Sleigh maker, at Ogdensburg, shows one of his light Carriages on page 350. Mr. Callaghan has been located here many years, and his work is "bragged" of by scores of delighted owners. It has even been said that one of his stylish buggies will coax a three minute gait out of a twenty year old colt ! Beleiving reputation to be worth everything in business, Mr. Callaghan employs only skilled workmen, and his wood and iron are of the best to be had. The work being well put together and artistically painted, will of course out- last much of the cheap trash sold about the country. Our readers will do well to remember Mr. C. when in want of anything new in his line.

W. E. Furniss, Merchant Miller, at Ogdensburg, has secured a first-class repu- tation on the celebrated brand of "Island City Buckwheat Flour." His wheat flour also is equal to any in the market. Mr. Furniss' Mills, though not the largest in Ogdensburg, are new and equal to any in appointments, and through the manage- ment of skilled millers, do a thriving business. Farmers can here find a market for their surplus grain, for cash or in ex- change for flour. See advertisement on page 358.

John Glass, Machinist, at Ogdens- burg, is just now busy repairing the steam boiler to be found on page 366. Go to his shop on Lake St., and you will find some of the best machinery and of the largest capa- city in Northern New York. Mr. Glass man- ufactures Surface Planers and Circular Saw Mills, of the best kind. In fact he will do anything in the Machine line for pay, yet his charges are moderate. Bear him in mind against the time of need.

Henry I. Proctor, manufacturer of Hand and Hay Rakes, and general Turner, at Ogdensburg, had his factory damaged by fire a short time since. Merchants should now give their orders to him, that his in- creased trade may compensate him for his loss. His work is equal to any done else- where. See card on page 246.

James M. Dow, Hasbrouck Block, Ogdensburg, publishes a card on colored page 229. Mr. Dow has one of the finest photographic establishments we have ever seen, connected with which, every facility known to the art may be found. He em- ploys a force of first-class artists, and makes all the different varieties of pictures known to the profession, among which are his justly celebrated "Collodio Chloride Pictures," in the manufacture of which he has no competitor in the State. His facili- ties are very extensive, having capacity for taking fifty or more pictures at a sitting .- Mr. Dow is a veteran in the ranks of picture takers, having spent over thirty years at the business. Those who would see them- seives as others see them, should call at Dow's New studio and " secure the shadow ere the the substance fades." He enjoys an extensive patronage, but has accommo- dations for all who wish life-like pictures at moderate prices.

St. Lawrence Republican and Daily Journal, two honorable names, and household words throughout St. Law- rence County, are the outgrowths of the in- domitable energy and perseverance of three boys in their early teens. Henry R. James, the proprietor, is the only survivor of the originators, the others having died many years ago. Through the well known business tact and good management of Mr. James, the success of the establishment has been largely increased. The papers are welcome visitors at the homes of thousands of the inhabitants, and probably for that reason the advertising columns are well sustained. We recollect very well, that so long ago as before the Rebellion, when we were traveling in the interests of these papers, advertisers sought us out for the purpose of making contracts at consider-

ably higher rates than were charged by other papers. Few papers outside the larger cities attain the circulation and in- fluence enjoyed by the Republican and Journal, which are published at Ogdens- burg. Job Printing all descriptions, can be executed here with neatness and dispatch. See advertisement on page 354.

G. LORD'S

NEW YORK STATE PREMIUM

HUNTINGTON.

No. 13, 18 69 Steel Plows!

To which has been awarded more State and County Premiums, during the last FIVE YEARS, as THE BEST PLOWS for all work, than all others combined. On the Prairies of the West, in the Middle and Eastern States and Canadas, they stand unrivaled to-day. They will do excellent work at ten inches depth by twelve and a half width of Furrow, which is considered by all good Plowmen to be the most difficult to perform ; and with Burnham & Pierce's Sub-Soil Attachment, patented August 27th, 1861, it will loosen the soil from two to eight inches below the depth of ordinary Plowing ; a por- tion of which can be turned to the surface at the next Plowing ;

Entirely Dispensing with the Separate PLOW for Sub-Soiling !

The increasing demand for these Plows has made it necessary to increase the facilities for their manufacture, and all orders for them should be made early to secure them. Also, all the Plows heretofore made by J. & G. Lord & Co., Lord & Lewis, Lord & Sweeney, Lord & De Long, Lord & Ransom, and E. Davis; prominent among which is the NO. O CAST PLOW! Of the same form or shape as the No. 13, and will do as good work, where an Iron Plow will work. WATERTOWN, N. Y.
