History and Purpose. A library Yale's personal Sacred Covenant; re- association existed in Gloversville cord of members of Dr. Yale's church.

In 1825 Philander Heacock purchas- ed a small library, which he donat- ed to the Kingsborough Sunday scriptions for charity libraries; re- Sunday School. Other library asso- ciations followed. In 1880 the Levi Parsons Library was founded, its name being changed to the Glovers- ville Free Library in 1889. The lat- ter. serves the reference and re- search needs of the residents of Gloversville and is endowed by the city to the extent of $5,000 annually. Manuscripts are acquired by gift or deposit, but are not purchased, sold, or exchanged. The library is housed in its own building ,a two-story, fire- proof, brick and stone structure, erected in 1904 through an endow- "ment of the Carnegie Foundation. History and Purpose. The library was established April 9, 1849, and received its first books from the old Court of Chancery Library in Sara- toga Springs which was abolished by the Constitution. of 1846. It spec- ializes almost exclusively inmater- ials' pertaining to law. It accepts gifts-and makes purchases but will not sell or exchange manuscripts. The library is housed in the Onondaga County Court House, a five story, non-fireproof building, constructed in 1904-7, with adequate storage space. Holdings

History and Purpose. The Asocia- tion was organized January '16, 1862 and chartered April 29, 1863 for the purpose of preserving records relat- ing to the history of Onondaga Co. It seeks to arouse and increase gen- eral interest in historical work; as- sist students in local and general history by preserving and making available materials confided to its care; collect and preserve imple- ments or articles illustrative of the Pcustoms of the Onondaga Nation and of the Iroquois League; gather manuscripts, books, maps, newspa- pers( pictures or other materials
"which have reference to the condi- tion or history of the county or any of its parts;" and publish such .mat- ter as may be thought desirable to embody in permanent form for better preservation." Manuscripts are ac- quired by gift and deposit, none are purchased or sold, and exchanges may be effected under certain condi- tions. The Association is housed in a five story, semi-fireproof, brick building, acquired in 1906. Space is adequate but there is ned for proper facilities for the storage of the as- sociation's holdings.
