Jamestown.

This flourishing village is the center of trade for Silver Creek township, as well as adjoining townships in this county and the counties of Clinton, Fayette and Madison. It was named after James Browder, an early pioneer. The original proprietors of the town site were Thomas Browder and Martin Mendenhall. The town has not long since had a dirastrous fire which destroyed some of the finest business houses. The citizens are energetic and enterprising, however, and new and improved buildings will scon take the place of those destroyed. The county fair grounds are located near the town, where is held each season one of the finest fairs of the State, The population is about 1,300.
