General William Auman, formerly of Pottsville, died in Pasadena, Cali- fornia, May 21. He was a veteran of the Civil war also Spanish American and Indian wars. He first enrolled as a First Defender, three months ser- vice, April 18, 1861, and enrolled Sep- tember 11, 1861 for three years service in Co. G, 48th Regt. He was promoted to corporal, sergeant, second and first lieutenants and captain. He was se- verely wounded in the charge, April 2, 1865, on Fort Mahone in front of Pe- tersburg, „Va., and was mustered out July 17, 1865 ..

In May, 1866, he entered the regular army as second lieutenant. During the Spanish war he commanded a regi ment and was promoted to colonel He was wounded in the Indian war at Camp Cook, Montana.

Mrs. Mary A., widow of Josia Brown, died at the residence of h son, Erwin G. Brown, at Mauc Chunk, aged 75 years. Mr. Brown her only survivor. Her husband, w} was an old-time employe of the L Evigation Company, đĩed

Mrs. Bortz suffered from a carbuncle in the neck for the last three weeks. She was bedfast for the last week and suffered very much. For a time hopes were entertained for her recovery, but as her system was weakened by diabe- tis, with which she was afflicted for several years, her conditie
