LOGAN.

This city noted as one of the most beautiful in the State, is located on a fine plateau on the eastern side of Cache Val- ley, almost in the center between the northern and southern boundaries of Cache county, on the O S L R R, at an elevation of 4600 feet above sea level, and has a population of over 11000 people. It is surrounded by 24 prosperous towns and villages which contain more than 30,000 inhabitants. Logan is the natural distribut- ing center for these, as well as for a number of towns in southern Idaho, which lie within the valley.

Cache county is known as the "Granary of Utah", and it well deserves the title. Wheat, oats, barley, potatoes and corn, also lucerne and sugar beets are raise in abundance. Salt Lake comes to Cache Valley to purchase its driving and draft horses. Cache county has 10,000 of them, besides 100,000 sheep and 10,000 hogs and other agricultural resources too numer- ous to mention. As we have remarked, Logan is the distributing center of the valley, therefore shares in the general prosperity.

But aside from being the county seat and the distributing center, Logan has many claims of her own. It is a healthy city. Its air and water are pure, and there is neither intolerable cold nor in- tense heat. Protection from fire in the main part of town is afforded by a pres- sure of 140 pounds to the square inch. It has fine, broad, shaded streets and tree-embowered homes. Its electric light system covers nearly the entire town, both as to street and private service. It has an up-to-date sewer system and street rail- way.

Logan's manufacturing facilities have not yet been exploited to one-tenth part of their capacity. Every day thousands of horse power runs to waste, but at the same time nowhere in the State is water or electric power so cheap. Several flour mills, knitting factories, two cereal fact- ories, a sugar factory and a condensed milk factory, are all situated at Logan. Educationally Logan leads the van. It has two of the foremost institutions of learning in the State. The Agricultural and Brigham Young Colleges, taken to- gether have an annual attendance of 1800 students drawn from Canada, Mexico and intermediate points. Besides these insti- tutions there is the New Jersey Presby - terian Academy, which has a thorough high
