OGDEN.

Ogden is the second city in population in Utah, containing as it now does over 35,000 inhabitants. It is the county seat of Weber county and is the chief food manufacturing center of the Inter-Mountain country.

is the terminus of the Denver & Rio Grande, the Union Pacific, the Southern Pacific and is also on the main line of the Oregon Short Line and the Salt Lake Route. Besides there are two inter-urban electric roads, the Bamberger Electric and the Ogdn, Logan and Idaho Railway, connecting Ogden with Salt Lake and with all towns north as far as Preston, Idaho. Huntsville, fourteen miles east, is also connected by this same inter-urban road. Because of it's railroad facilities. Ogden is a natural jobbing and manufacturing center.

Ogden is beautifully situated at the foot of the Wasatch mountains and is surround- ed by a rich agricultural and horticultural territory. It is the home of the canning industry in Utah, the sugar and dairy in- terests of this and adjoining states being also controlled by Ogden capital. During the past year all food manufacturing plants have been increased in capacity, especially new and expensive stock yards have been established; the packing plant is now the

largest and most up-to-date west of the Missouri River; the Cereal Food factory, the Everfresh Evaporating plant; Goddard's Pickle plant and many canneries liave greatly increased their capacity; the Utah Packing corporation, a California company, has established itself in Ogden with five canneries; the Globe Milling & Elevator Company, also a California corporation, is building in Ogden what is to be the largest of its chain of mills and elevators.

It is also a beautiful residence city with an ideal climate which is moderate the year round. The streets are wide and well kept, several miles of new pavement having been added in the last twelve months. There is a first class street car and inter-urban line. The city owns its own water works, supplying water direct from artesian wells several miles away. This system while charging lower rates than most cities, is run at a profit of some $50,000 per annum. There are several good hotels, two daily newspapers as well as finely equipped hospitals and an up-to-date public library. There are several public parks and chil- dren's play grounds within the city limits and a grove of stately trees beside the river is set apart for free auto camping ground.

Ogden's commercial strength is derived from large pay rolls of railroads, jobbers. canneries, sugar: factories, cement factor-

ies, candy factories and cereal factories. Other large institutions as well as mining, horticultural and live stock interests are well represented. The financial position of the city is very strong. On a basis of 35,000 people. there is on deposit in the seven banks of the city an average of over $350 per capita.

The summer feature of the city is the beautiful Ogden Canyon which is famous thruout the country, being reached by the street car system and also by automobile boulevard.
